I think you are referring to Neville Longbottom. His family was so worried about him taht they put him in lots of dangerous situations to force the magic out of him. Then it finally happened when one day his Uncle Algie was dangling him by the heels from the window. His aunt came in and offered his Uncle a meringue and he took it, letting go of Neville the same time

Neville fell but bounced all the way down the hill without getting hurt. They were really happy and his Uncle presented him with a toad (Trevor), as a present
