My fiancee and I are trying to do it together but is there a typical way that either the groom or bride are the ones that are supposed to do it. Do you get Ushers a gift ? We are trying to have a VERY traditional wedding so what I am looking for is info on who is supposed to pick ~ old school i guess ....

  1. Usually the groom picks the users. Unless you have really close cousins or brothers or something that you want in the wedding as an usher I would let your fiance pick the guys.

  2. My fiance is picking his.  We estimate we'll need three, so he's using his close friends (family as groomsmen) and my cousin (14 by then) as ushers.  Completely his choice.  Although, should there be another man in my life I would want as an usher, I don't think he would have a problem with me speaking up.

  3. Groom picks the ushers and gets gifts for them

  4. You do it together, same as you do with the wedding party.

Sometimes ushers are older brothers or sister, or another family member, or friends who didn't fit in as attendants.

For our wedding, we had my older brother, and a brother-in-law.

  5. the groom

  6. Groom to pick Ushers

  7. The bride picks her brides maids and maid of honor.  The groom picks his Best Man and the ushers or Grooms men.  You as a couple are supposed to get a small token of rememberance type gift for everyone in your bridal party.

  8. oh boy I don't know about tradition. For us, it turned out that my husband had 2 brothers and so did I, and we had 7 per side in our bridal party, so he only got to pick 3 friends where I got to pick 6, since I only had one sister.

So I politely requested that he ask my cousin, whom we are both friends with, and then he picked the other 3 ushers (friends of his).

I always thought the groom picked... but I don't know tradition.

    Good luck!

  9. The bride and groom together generally choose the ushers from the teenage or young adult men on both sides of the family (cousins, young uncles, etc), depending on who has friends/relatives of the appropriate age and how many guests there are to be seated (you will need more ushers for a big wedding than a small one).

Traditionally, "usher" is a separate job from "groomsman."

The groom choses his best man and groomsmen, the bride chooses her maid/matron of honor and bridesmaids.

And yes, you should get the ushers a small, age-appropriate gift - perhaps money clips engraved with their initials, flasks (if they're old enough), gift certificates, etc.
