A nice bank holiday weekend and when do they have the one dayers against SA? Friday and Tuesday when I and most of the country will be at work, just what idiot is responsible for this lack of thought ? It really has p**sed me off, just pure stupidity.

  1. The ICC is responsible for the future tours programme. However, they are not responsible for the individual itineraries. That is up to the respective boards, in this case the English and South African ones.

And I agree, the scheduling of this series is rather bizarre. The final Test match between England and South Africa finished on August 11th. South Africa then had two warm up games, and a Twenty20 game was scheduled for August 20th. (a Wednesday). Fine with this, T20's are designed for people finishing work and/or school.

The fist ODI was played on August 22nd (Friday). The second is scheduled for August 26th (Tuesday). With a Bank Holiday weekend slap bang in between. Surely it would have made more sense to have played on the Saturday and the Monday. At least one of the games should have been played over the weekend. People will say that players need time to recover between matches. But they can manage to play a five day Test, 90 overs a day. In an ODI they only stand in the field for about three and a half hours! Few will bat for longer than an hour and a half!

And the argument about needing three full days rest in between games in thrown into complete disarray next weekend. when they play on Friday August 29th, and Sunday August 31st!

It's a shambles, and pays scant regard to the public.

Luckily, I can't stand limited overs cricket anyway, so I don't really care if it is played when I am  at home or not. However, many people do enjoy watching it, so they should be enabled to if at all possible.

After all, as the ECB has sold the TV rights to BSkyB, only those who can afford it will be able to watch. And, er. won't those people be working people?

But perhaps they just want school children to watch, as they will be the only ones with the time. And the "school runs mums", now working "term-time only",with their 4X4 vehicles idling in the garage (they need them you know, for all the stuff kids have these days!).

OK, I'm getting wound up now. Better climb off my soap box.

In summary, the scheduling is poor, and gives no consideration to the public.

  2. The International Cricket Council does!

Edit: We all know whoever the people that are running the ICC are idiots! As i like to call them Idiotic Cricket Council!

  3. The ICC does. But these games are usually scheduled years in advance as part of the Future Tours Program.

They have to fit the games in with so many other cricketing boards (SA and England in this instance) so it's not just down to the fault of one person. But you can't satisfy everyone, I'm sure there will always be a few dissatisfied people. It's the summer holiday anyway so there will still be a good audience for the games.

Also with scheduling these games you need a sufficient amount of time for a team to recover before they make the switch between game formats and you need to give the players a little rest between games so scheduling them sooner would just exhaust people, especially as they have to go off and play in other parts of the world afterward or play warm-ups between the internationals.

You could always watch the highlights or watch it on-line, or record it and watch it later. Or you could pull a sick day.
