  1. USGA rules state that each player reaches the green, then it is based on length from the cup, unless both players are still off of the green. In that case, it is based on length.

  2. Nothing more simple or certain; who ever is further from the hole regardless of any other circumstances!

  3. The phrase "you're away" applies to ALL shots after leaving the teeing area until completion of the hole, with the exception of match play. In four-ball match play one partner may allow his partner to putt first even though his partner may be closer to the hole.

In four-ball match play the team that is away goes first and of the two people on that team the closer of the two may go first.

  4. fringe

  5. If the player off the green is closer, he will usually go first if he will be leaving the flagstick in.  The proper thing to do is OK it with the player who is actually the furthest from the hole.  However in match play, things change a little bit. If you play out of turn, the other player can force you to play the shot again.  Being on or off the green matters not when establishing whose turn it will be.

  6. THIS actually depends on the game you are playing ~!

if you are playing a tournament stroke play , wait for ALL players to reach the Green .........

If you are playing Match play the person furthest from the Hole is always Up next !~

  7. The rules of golf say that whoever is "away" (furthest from the hole) plays first.  So the guy 15 feet and putting should go first.  This is especially important in match play as if you are the guy 10 feet away chipping you want to see if he makes the putt or not before you hit your shot.  However in casual play it is generally accepted that everyone get on the green before anyone else starts putting - this way you only remove the flag once and possibly speed up play a little.

  8. the person on the fringe plays first.  players on the green alwayts wait until everyone is on the green

  9. Person on the fringe. Once all players are on the green, then the distance from the hole rules apply.

  10. Confusing ain't it. Read the USGA rules, decide for yourself.

  11. Wow, what a variety of answers. As I understand it, and as I play, you would have to wait for all players to reach the green. Then the rules of further est away applies.Think about it this way, if the guy on the green goes first because he's away, he will have to pull the pin, putt, then replace the pin so the other player can shoot. That would cause delays, something you don't want on a golf course.

  12. Match play matters, but usually the ball that's away plays first. The answer of being on the green is one of those "unwritten" things that have developed. Use this for a different example, if a ball is on the green, but 30 feet away, compared to a ball on the fringe 6 feet away? See how that works? Match play the ball away MUST play first, because there is a rule that states a player who plays out of turn can be made to replay. (10-5)

  13. The person that is further from the cup is required to play first.  In match play golfer 2 can make golfer 1 replay the shot if they play out of turn.  In stroke play there is no penalty.  The golfers can agree that the person closer to the hole plays first.  Many times the closer of the two will play first in friendly matches if they wish to leave the pin in.
