  1. Do you mean "Romeo & Juliet Laws?"  Like they have in Florida and North Carolina?  Several states have laws in place that address age of consent laws with regard to 2 year differences.  Kansas has a Romeo/Romeo law, having ruled same-s*x discrimination is unlawful.

The Genarlow Wilson case probably made passage of these types of laws a more public issue:

  2. "Romeo's Law" in Kentucky is named after a Yellow Labrador called "Romeo" who survived a horrible beating at the hands of Ronald Shawn Turner of Pulaski County Kentucky.  Mr. Turner's neighbors caught the abuse on videotape.

Turner was charged with a misdemeanor, and was sentenced to four months in jail; however, the videotape stirred emotions and a coalition of animal rights organizations proposed that a tougher animal abuse law increasing penalties for those who abuse dogs and cats, be enacted by the Kentucky legislature.

**Although "Romeo's Law" was not "proposed" by a specific individual, an Eastern Kentucky woman, Ms. JENA SIZEMORE, was a driving force behind it.  Organizations such as the Pulaski County Humane Society, the ASPCA, and Kentucky's Animal Law Coalition have assisted Ms. Sizemore and others in the effort.

In the legislature, the principal advocates for "Romeo's Law" were State Representative STAN LEE and State Senator TOM BUFORD.

As originally introduced "Romeo's Law" was more severe than the compromise passed on April 15, 2008; however, most supporters of the legislation were pleased with the amended bill.  The compromise bill passed 92-0 in the House and 31-2 in the Senate.
