    Lovelock postulated a new scientific synthesis in harmony with the Greek conception of the Earth as a living whole -- the world is one great circuit of life from its core to its outer atmosphere.


  2. Assuming Lordreith to be correct, I should think that current interest would be directed toward what Mr Lovelock was smoking rather than what he was thinking. Other than a few weirdo cults who presume to be "Friends of the Earth," rational thinkers regard the planet as an insensate object that cares less about we humans than a rat does about the fleas that crawl on its back. That which we do for "the planet," we do to preserve our own puny butts. The planet be damned!
