call a local independent agent.  they write with a lot of companies so they can place your home and auto together and keep you with a great company at a great price.  people tend to go to big names they have heard (ie: allstate, state farm) but honestly, some of the best companies are ones you may never have heard of before.

Farmers...no Allstate....no State Farm....oh I don't know.  It all depends on your situation and how much you are willing to risk on a loss.  As long as the company is rated A or better by AM Best and the policy has the coverage you need, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.
