When I lived in Michigan, I had Verizon and it wasn't too bad. I believe that Comcast offers Digital Voice there now as well.

I would check out michiganutilities.com to search for the companies that provide local phone service in your area. The site lets you compare prices to find the cheapest if that's what you are looking for.
