  1. It's one of those things you don't question.

  2. The water cycle put the salt in the sea, due to the mineral being soluble and, unlike many other minerals/particles gathered by erosion, not dropping out as the rivers slow down on the flood plains and estuaries, where most silt and minerals carried as the river's 'load' are deposited.

This gradual accumulation over the millennia has led to the concentration we experience today.

  3. Dr Pepper did it.

  4. It`s minerals of the sae bed and volcanic matter.

  5. Mother nature,On one of her off days.

  6. All bodies of water are subject to evaporation;  but while the ocean is salt the Great Lakes are not. Then we have Salt Lake City.  As Rob said, it depends upon the chemical composition of the matter on which the water sits.

  7. a great story to tell him ...

Once there were two brothers. One was rich, and one was poor; the rich one was rather mean. When the Poor Brother used to come to ask for things it annoyed him, and finally one day he said, "There, I'll give it to you this time, but the next time you want anything, you can go Below for it!"

Presently the Poor Brother did want something, and he knew it wasn't any use to go to his brother; he must go Below for it. So he went, and he went, and he went, till he came Below.

It was the queerest place! There were red and yellow fires burning all around, and kettles of boiling oil hanging over them, and a q***r sort of men standing round, poking the fires. There was a Chief Man; he had a long curly tail that curled up behind, and two ugly little horns just over his ears; and one foot was very q***r indeed. And as soon as anyone came in the door, these men would catch him up and put him over one of the fires, and turn him on a spit. And then the Chief Man, who was the worst of all, would come and say, "Eh, how do you feel now? How do you feel now?" And of course the poor people screamed and screeched and said, "Let us out! Let us out!" That was just what the Chief Man wanted.

  9. We used to sing a song in school:-

Who put the colours on the rainbow,

Who out the salt into the sea,

Who put the hump upon the camel,

    Who made you and me.

Who made whales and snails and quails

Who made rats and bats and cats,

Who made hogs and dogs and frogs,

    GOD made all of these.

    I hope this helps.

Not bad remembering this considering it been over 20 years since I sung it in primary school.

  10. It exists naturally. When water evaporates from the sea's surface any minerals (including salt) are left behind. Over a period of time (i.e. the last billion or so years) the concentration has increased to present levels.
