what hap pend to all the characters. and why did they cancel it. i am just curious.

They canceled it because of...money.  That, and Dennis Franz (Andy Sipowicz) was getting tired of doing it. I loved the show, too.  

The creator of the show, David Milch, left the show after 8 years or so because of a "nervous condition" (read cocaine addiction).  He went into rehab, got "better" and then created the HBO drama "Deadwood."
