This game took place every year in August in Chicago. The last game was in 1976 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and it got stopped in the middle due to excessive rain.

  1. I sure do.  My favorite memory was when d**k Butkus, FIghting Illini middle linebacker #50, was taking NFL players apart in that game the year he played.  He went to the NFL as #51, a number that has been sought and respected by linebackers ever since - just like MJ's #23 deenotes excellence.  One wrecking crew of a game changer that Butkus!!!  The game has evolved, but there is always a place for a "big hitter" and he delivered.  The games were always played at Soldier Field.  With the big contract era it no longer fits for players to risk injury in a game that could end or shorten their career. One of the costs of the big money era.

  2. I remember it . I used to enjoy those games. I think the reason they stopped it was because of the possible injury to some of the college draft picks. I don't think any owner wanted to see his first round pick get knocked out for the season in a meaningless game.

  3. Yeah having read Jerry Kramer's book, Instant Replay, he talked a lot about how they did that in the 60's when he was playing. I wish they still did it now it would be fun to watch but people are too uptight.
