i run the 400m.

in 1: 09.

When i run

(Should i be running on the balls of my feet?)

or ( heel to toe? )

  1. yeah did athletics for a while now actually coach it!

    um yeah you should be running on the balls of your feet no matter if you are wearing plain runners or a pair of running spikes it doesn't change the fact on the ability that you have to run! find the best solution for yourself normal runners or spikes and see which gives you the better outcome.  

    If you run to heel to toe will eventually hurt and damage the toes and heels but especially the cartilage in you toes causing your toes to wear out which then requires you to have an operation on them and then you are needed to begin the process again of running!

    Running a 1:09 in a 400m could be really good from the beginning but if you are young it is excellent to be running times like this!

  2. You should being doing both but not exactly heel to toe.

    When you run your first 100 meters you should be sprinting, so ball of your feet. If your doing the 400 correctly your should be relaxed on the back straight away which means your doing a more flat foot ball of your feet running.(like jogging)

    The rest is usually for most a sprint so use the balls of your feet.

  3. You should run on the balls of your feet at all times. The balls of your feet give you the most "push-off" every time you step. Not to mention, the ball of your foot is where all the spikes are on sprinter's spikes.

Though it's hard, staying on the balls of your feet is the correct way to run, short or long distance.  Running where your heel strikes first can cause injury to your achilles and is overall not as efficient.  If you watch the running of dominant distance runners or sprinters their feet will land much the same.
