Who said "self sufficiency breeds inefficiency"? HELP!!!

  1. From economics point of view self  sufficiency means that person will do each task by him/her self, which consequently means no specialization. But as Adam Smith have proved if each specialize on one task - then there is benefit for everyone in society (on average), economies of scale, productivity, efficiency have same roots.

    Thus "self sufficiency" will lead to lack of specialization meaning "inefficiency".
