Question:

Who serves better: Roddick or Karlovic?

Well seeing Karlovic beat Federer with his 22 aces made him look might impressive today and his serves looked even better than Roddick's. He is the ATP ace leader by more than one-hundred but I was surprised to see that Roddick is better in most serve statistic categories, except for 1st serve points won by a slim margin. The thing is, Karlovic's serve looks a lot more dominant because he hits so many aces and many players have learned to just block Roddick's serve back. Who's serve is better and why?

  1. Well theres no doubt that Karlovic has a better routine to his serve but Roddick is somewhat more consistent regardless of the statistics.

  2. Andys serve is not as major a force as it has been in the past. People are now beginning to know how to play it.

When Karlovic is serving like that it is impossible to get. Karlovic i'd say is the better server because it is impossible to read over a match. Karlovic also tends to get a very high percentage of 1st serves which is remarkable with that power.

You do ask 'Who is the better server?' and that is how I answered. However of course Roddick is a better player. Karlovic has a serve but what else? Nothing major.

  3. karlovic those statistics have nothing to do with hu has a better serve because karlovic has the unofficial fastest serve. and also because he hasnt played as many matches as roddick has because karlovic has just recently got on the big stage with some huge results

  4. Matters what you judge you serve by.

Serve alone, Karlovic's serve because of the height he is able to get the ball to bounce. He is 6'10" and when the ball bounces at the level of your head, it is quite difficult to return.

Serve mixed in with a more consistent ground game, Roddick then. I guess the stats you gave can justify that.

Personal opinion without looking at those stats,

Karlovic's serve. The high bounce is harder to handle then the pace of serve for most players.

Pros don't usually play someone who can hit the ball as high as Karlovic. Pros now and days have become accustomed to fast serves like Roddick's so it is nothing new.

If Karlovic was a lot more consistent, and I mean ALOT...

I think he could win a few slams because of that 1st serve hands down. If you look at Ivo's results vs. Federer, Nadal, and other top 10 players. He consistently takes them to tie breaks and if he played the bigger points better, then he could have won a few more of those matches.

Karlovic has only been as far as the 4th round in a slam and this year he lost in the round of 128 in Wimbledon. Talk about melt down -_- in the crunch time.

  5. Karlovic. Cause did you see how he beat federer? Most of his games are over quickly due to his serve

  6. Im gonna have to go with Roddick

  7. Karlovic

  8. This one is kinda an easy one, it's Karlovic.

Speed actually doens't make as much difference as you'd think. Besides, Karlovic hit a serve 157 mph one time it was just a fault. The bigger thing about Karlovic's serve is that he's taller.

Karlovic is 6'10" so his serve comes down for a lot higher than Roddick's and as a result makes it bounce higher. Imagine trying to hit not just a serve that is going 153 mph, but that also bounces up as high as that!

Roddick's serve has to be flat and doesn't even go THAT fast anymore. Roddick just has a better overall game which is the only reason those last stats go in his favor.

  9. I gotta go with Roddick

I like all the stats, but stats arent everything.  In tennis its who wins the big points, and when it comes down to it Roddick serves big on the big points, and so many times i see Karlovic miss the first serve on game or set points.

Roddick still holds the record of the fastest serve at 155mph, and so far Karlovic hasnt touched it.

  10. ehh, i still believe roddick has better serves. sure karlovic has had more aces in matches with roddick, but can karlovic hit 155 mph serves? no, he can't.

  11. roddick

  12. man whats wrong with fedderer hes losing alot but i would say roddick has a better serve and a faster serve
