Question:

Who should I call for this problem?

My son has moved out of my house and his bedroom is full of trash and clutter. It's a disgusting mess and we are going to have to rip up the carpet and paint. He's moved out of state and the mess is left for me. I'm not physically able to take care of this problem myself. Who should I hire to at least do the cleaning for me? It's too big a job for a company like Merry Maids.

  1. they have companies like junk luggers that will come in a take of your problem

  2. Where there is a need, someone has figured out how to make a buck.  Don't give up.  Real estate companies and banks that end up with the titles on foreclosed homes have this problem all the time.  In my area I know of private businesses that clean homes where the owners were evicted or because of a meth bust.  I would call a few real estate offices and do some creative questioning.

If all else fails, you may try a temp agency in your area to have them send out a few guys for the day for the dirty work.

  3. Look in your local newspaper's classified ads.  I was in the junk hauling business for years and this is where I placed my ads.  Look for a junk or rubbish removal section there should be plenty of ads from independent haulers.  I recommend getting a few quotes (they should never charge to give you a bid) and NEVER pay up front.  The cheapest isn't always best there are some that will not take your refuse to a proper landfill or recycling location and will dump it illegally and if there are any identifying pieces of trash this could come back to bite you.  Ask them questions such as where they will dump their material and will a recycling facility be used.  Recycling facilities are generally cheaper to dump the waste.

Also, if the price seems to steep don't be afraid to negotiate a lower price.  Most will charge by volume or weight and will estimate the amount of waste there is.  A full pickup truck filled to the top of the cab is approx. 3-4 cubic yards of trash and will cost the hauler about 50-75 dollars to dump at a landfill.  Hope this helps.

  4.   If you  can find a way to get rid of the junk (refuse center, curb side haul away etc) call your local boy or girl scouts or church youth group to see if any one can help you as a project for themselves..If you have curb side pick up some companies offer a once a year ( or 1 time) pick up as part of their service..or for a fee of course..Maybe a boy scout is working on a merit badge and needs that sort of  project.. Maybe it ll only be the cost of a hot dog /chips/ watermelon lunch  GL

  5. Call a trash hauling company and then send the bill to your son.
