Question:

Who should I contact about our dilapidated county road?

I live a mile down a gravel county road in Putnam County, Indiana. My problem is that the road has become in such a state of disrepair as to be dangerous. Large ditches are forming through the road due to improper draining, and the bridge is all but washed out. In the past, my family has attended a couple of county meetings to express their concerns about the problem, but never to any avail.

Who in our county government should I contact about this problem? How should I present our case, and how should I prepare?

Thanks so much for your help!

  1. Well I don't know a thing about Indiana but in my area of PA, that sounds like a normal road to me!

But since your state probable isn't so careless, I would probably contact them since most roads are under the authority of state governments.

You can google your state department of transportation, call your mayor, state representative or senator. I'm not too sure about your congressman, they do constituent services but I'm not sure about roads. But they would definitely be able to tell you who, and I'm sure they would be willing to guide you to the proper authorities (that's how they make a name for themselves).

If all else fails shoot a few cows and drag them on to the road, maybe build up a blockade with some logs on top. You know, a don't tread on me kind of solution.
