Yes, believe it or not, Joe Crede is still available in my league. Anyways, who should I drop?

Alexei Ramírez (CHI) - 2B,OF

Fred Lewis (SF) - OF

Édgar Rentería (DET) - SS

Michael Cuddyer (MIN) - OF

Jeremy Guthrie (BAL) - SP,RP

I really need to improve my power, and I'm thinking of dropping Cuddyer, but the logical think would be to drop Guthrie, because I can probably pick him back up in the near future if I want. If I drop Renteria, then I don't have a back up SS, but Orlando Cabrerra is a free agent as well. Alexi Ramierez and Fred Lewis are my newest pickups, but both are doing really well right now and I don't want to drop them.

What should I do?

  1. Drop Cuddyer. He has a low average, not much power and out of the 3, he's the worst right now. The second option would be Guthrie and Ramirez (he's not going to last long, especially when Soriano comes back).

  2. To answer the specific question, Cuddyer is the one to go.  If Crede will be an upgrade at third base for you, go get him.

However,  you may actually have too much bench depth for your position players.

Having backup players at nearly all positions will hurt you in the long-run.  If you have position players that are planned to play 150+ games in the year, you are better off just leaving them there and getting more pitching.

By picking up good middle relief pitchers (like Marmol) you will get plenty of strikeouts and enough wins and saves to make a difference in the standings.  If you keep position players, you will have them on the bench getting no statistics for you.

Minimize your bench with an extra outfielder and a multi-position infielder, drop or trade your backup catcher, and load up on the pitching.
