Who should I pick to win the 2007 Kentucky Derby?

With 20 juveniles asked to go the extra distance, it's a real puzzle.

Curlin has won convincingly enough to merit respect.  His lengths of winning and ease in which he did it should get him most of the way, and his breeding should do the rest.

The only fly in the ointment is weather.

Should it stay muddy, it would help somebody like Tiago get up in time when all others fold.  

Or, another closer who likes a wet track might eat up the Churchill Downs strip like it were pancakes.  

My choice for a dry track....Curlin and Cowtown Cat.

My choice for a muddy or off track....Teuflesberg and Hard Spun.

Its between Street Sence and Any Given Saturday. Street Sence will go off as the favorite and will close the race very well. He is the only horse that is very good at this distance. The race is made for him to win. Any Given Saturday will be right there with him as they come to the poll. It looks like we will see a repeat of the Tampa Bay Derby where Street Sence beat Any Given Saturday by a nose. Also Any Given Saturday has Garrett Gomez on his back, who is the leading money earner for Jockeys this year.

Curlin will be up there but not in the top 3. Yes he is undefeated but for only running in 3 races the horse is not ready for such a big race and will fall up short.

One surprise horse to watch for is Storm in May. This 3 year old is going to be a special story that you will hear about all day. Bought for only $16,000, he has already earned over $400,000. Also he is completely BLIND in one eye!!!!

Altogether though... It should be a great day for racing!!!!
