  3. How about Ibn al-Haytham? He was a medieval Muslim scholar who overcame bouts of mental illness to develop the scientific method two hundred years before the Europeans learned of it—by reading his books. Born in Basra, in what is now Iraq, he was the first person to insist on testing hypotheses with experiments. His development of the scientific method changed the world. The only full biography of him is "Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist" by Bradley Steffens. It was just chosen by California Readers to be part of the 2008 California Collection for students. You can find reviews of the book and a sample chapter at http://www.ibnalhaytham.net/ Good luck!

  4. I would chose one of the Presidential Candidates right now.  It is a very "hot" topic and there is plenty of "research" material right there and available on the internet.  Good luck!!!

    Peace & Love  :)
