I would have said Michael Voss, but since he has signed a deal with West Coast it probably isn't an option. Any thoughts....

  1. I wonder if Sheedy still wants to coach.

I'd like to do a trade Brisbane can have Dean (complete idiot) Bailey and we get a great coach i Leigh Matthews.

  2. Craig Lambert is a good chance.

Michael Voss has a get out clause in his contract with WC so he could be a chance but has no experience at top level coaching.

    Paul Roo's ..Maaaaybe !

Leigh matthews wil go into the media for a year then coach Gold Coast in 2010..You heard it here first ;-)

  3. Probably Mick Malthouse

  4. Mick Malthouse.

Then he could stay there for

10 years or so (like he has been at Pieland)

    and break the record

for the longest period for an AFL

coach not to win a premiership.

  5. Whoever it is it will be someone with at least an extensive assistant coach experience. No AFL club will appoint a completely untried coach. So talk of Michael Voss is unfounded.

Michael Voss obviously knows that fact & has done the right thing & taken on an assistant coach position. He undoubtedly wants to coach at top level but is smart enough to realize he needs experience first.

It's no use recycling discards like Sheedy or Pagan. The Lions have to do what Hawthorn, Carlton & the Cats did (a couple of years back) & get a younger, more modern up-to-date-thinker as their senior coach. There area few assistant coaches about at other clubs who fit this bill.

  6. Justin Leppitsch's name is being thrown about. You heard it here.

  7. Vossy!

  8. I Reckon Sheeds(Kevin Sheedy)

  9. Thats a hard one - i recon that if peter sumich wasnt with west coast and was with another club id really think he could coach them, he has the real coaching type and is a strong leader, but sorry hes staying with west coast! And vossy is with the eagles too, i would have said him.

Gee they all seem to be with west coast =/

I hope the lions can get a good coach that can lead them into premiership contention once again - not saying matthews was bad he was a true leader and is one of the greatest footballers to ever play the game, aswell as coach.

  10. Longmire I reckon!!

EDIT: A bunch of budding Craig Hutchison's (?) aren't we!! lol

  11. Voss was a champion player, but that does not mean he will make a great coach...remember Tim Watson?

I am in agreeance with Imawunda (above) in regards to Sheedy/Pagan, We need new blood, not old hats

I would like to see Malthouse coaching them, i think he is passed his 'use by' date at Collingwood. Roos, is another.

  12. There's a good chance that someone like John Longmire (Swans Assistant) could get the job. He narrowly missed out on the St Kilda job to Ross Lyon (also a swans assistant previously).

However, with Paul Roos job in the air as well, he might be holding out for that role instead.

Voss would have been the obvious choice and now anyone who takes that role would be looking over their shoulder for Voss to return.
