  1. Quasimodo from Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo

Jean Valjean from Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (or perhaps Javert)

Sydney Carton from A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

Othello from the eponymous play by William Shakespeare

Cyrano from play Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand

Victor Frankenstein from Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

Dr. Jekyll from The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

Mrs. Bennet, Mr. Bennet, Mr. Wickham (or any other character) from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Miss Havisham from Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Bertha Mason Rochester from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

    Some real people:

    -Abraham Lincoln

    -Marie Curie

    -John Wilkes Booth

    -Booker T. Washington

    -Abigail Adams

    -George Washington

    -George Washington Carver

    -Mark Twain

    -Louisa May Alcott

    -Jack London

    -Teddy Roosevelt

    -Thomas Edison

    -Edgar Allan Poe

    -Helen Keller

    -Annie Sullivan

There are so many more names of both characters and real people that come to mind, but hopefully this will start you thinking.

BTW: What are the instructions for this epitaph? Does it have to be long or short? I'm just curious.

  2. Michelle - Since you're not dead, YOU don't need an epitaph. I'm assuming this was a school assignment, and you're supposed to write an epitaph for a character. Are you sure it's not a eulogy? An epitaph is just a few words on a gravestone, whereas a eulogy is a speech read during a funeral.

What if you wrote one on Harry Potter? Or if you think that's too common, you could write one on another character from the series, like Hagrid or Dumbledore. What would Hermione's epitaph say?

  3. A few suggestions, Hitler, he was an interesting guy, Terry Crews, an exceptional actor, Or me, I am a pshycologists dream and also my life is like a drama novel but true.
