Who should walk me down the aisle? Mom, dad, step-dad or son?

My parents divorced when I was 4. I saw my dad for the weekend once, maybe twice a month and some holidays till I was about 13. I developed more of a social life and began to go to his house less and less. He developed a very strong bond to my step siblings to the extent that they are now closer to him than I am...although I am his only biological child. I was essentially raised by my mom and step-dad who I had a terrible relationship with until I moved out of the house when I was 18 (I'm now 30). Now I am equally close to my mom and stepdad and am considering asking one of them instead of my dad to walk me down the aisle. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but my dad and I aren't super close emotionally or geographically.

One last thing...I have a 10 year old son and was considering bypassing asking any of my parents and having him "give me away". What do you think?

  2. In my case, my 1st husband passed away from cancer and my parents were unable to attend my 2nd wedding, due to illness.  I had a daughter from my 1st husband and she was 6 years old and I could not imagine not having here stand beside me and be my maid-of-honor which she did.  My 1st husband's father had also passed away, so he could not do it and my soon-to-be husband had asked his father to be his best man.  I found that since I had such a deep and close relationship with my minister and asked him to do it.  He had seen the good and the worst times in my life and he accepted.  In the wedding sermon, he explained that there is an old tradition where, in fact the minister used to walk the bride down the aisle.  It all flowed wonderfully together and that was 20 years ago and the same minister was there when my daughter married.  v
