  1. Crossing gates have a phone number posted on the box

  2. Both, P.D. first .

  3. def. the police they can control the trafic there and get ahold of the train staion to fix

  4. If you call the police, the _should_ be able to get ahold of the railroad.  However, if you do have the 800 number, that's the one to call first, as it's the railroad that will have to respond with by alerting their trains and sending a repair person.  There have been times when police have not known how to respond, or haven't responded in a timely manner.

As far as police protection for the crossing, that shouldn't be necessary.  If the train crews know the crossing is out, they'll provide their own protection.

  5. I'd contact the police first... they'll respond AND contact the railroad.

It IS true that there is an 800 # at the signals... but most folks don't STOP at the box to eyeball the number !!

  6. Crossing gates have a phone number posted on the box  to call if there's a problem. The railroad will get in contact with all trains using that crossing to protect the public til a signal maintainer is able to get there to fix it.It wouldn't hut to call the police either.
