  1. sorry rogerw, not true mate, good attempt though, twas a rumour.

william ebbs ellis invented the game in rugby school, rugby england, yeah its actually named after the school, but they were playing football (soccer) and he picked up the ball and ran with it. through this fine disregard of the rules, rugby was born. it was then a kiwi army dude who first played it in england and brought it back to nz, setting up matches and stuff who is credited with the introduction of rugby to nz. the first touring side (this was controversial, as there were two different one, and no one really knows which one actually became the all blacks)

but the only reason they are called the all blacks is because of the home colour of their kits. nothing more.

    Go the All Blacks!

  2. According to legend, the 1905 New Zealand team touring the UK were reported in one match to have played like "all backs". Somehow the report was mis-typed as "all blacks" and the name stuck.

Otherwise, perhaps the fact they played in black uniforms may have had something to do with it.

  3. The New Zealand Rugby Football Union was formed...

"The NZRFU was formed in 1892 , the inaugural meeting held atWellington's Club Hotel.Seven unions were represented but with thesignificant absence of Canterbury, the oldest union.Otago and Southlandadditionally refused to affiliate which meant they had norepresentatives when the first full New Zealand side went to New SouthWales in 1893.The skipper was Tom Ellison, the founder of the wingforward position, who moved that the New Zealand playing uniform be , 'Black Jersey with Silver Fern Leaf , Black Cap with Silver Monogram ,White knickerbockers and Black Stockings.' Only the knickerbockers havesince changed "[1]

The first person to bring rugby to NZ...

"Credit for the introduction of rugby to New Zealand goes to Charles John Monro, son of Sir David Monro, Speaker in the House of Representatives from 1860 to 1870. Charles Monro, who was born at Waimea East, was sent to Christ's College, Finchley in England to complete his education and while there he learned the rugby game. On his return to Nelson he suggested that the local football club try out the rugby rules. The game must have appealed to the club members for they decided to adopt it. " [2]

    Also,

"Even before the New Zealand Rugby Football Union came into being, overseas tours had been arranged. In 1882 the first rugby team from overseas visited New Zealand when New South Wales toured both islands late in the season. In 1884, a New Zealand team, wearing blue jerseys with a gold fern, returned the visit, winning all its matches in New South Wales. New South Wales sent another side to New Zealand in 1886 and the first British team to visit arrived in 1888. The New Zealand Native Team became the first from the colony to visit Britain when it undertook the longest tour ever in 1888-89. The first national side to take the field under the auspices of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union did so in 1893, when 10 games were played on a tour of Australia. "[2]

A committe of some sort would probably have decided on who the players that formed that team were.
