Each Nation has it bad and good points, but we should really bury the sterotype of awful English food as something of the past.  Undoubtedly this comes from a time when Britains' rapid industrialisation and urbanisation made it inferior to many other European countries and the nadir it reached on wartime rationing and shortages when many American GIs came over.  You can still fund c**p food, but London is now the gastromoic centre of the world and the typical British town offers some of the greatest choice of world and good home grown stuff.  Even the Indian food is now distinctly British and not like they get in India.    I know from visiting France and Spain that the food is wonderful but a narrow range, and in other Northern European countries such as Holland and parts of Germany the food is worse than the UK (don't even get me started on Skandanavian herring mop rolls)  In the US I think the food in general diners and family restaurants varies greatly and there is too many examples of quantity over quality, hormone injected beef, tasteless shrimp, and processed cheese (the white bread is also highly sugared, there is no lean back bacon only highly-cremated fatty belly bacon, the most popular apple is the innaprropriately named red delicious)  Having said that, the service is generally much better in the US at the low to mid end (I have seen no difference in better eating establishments) due to the dependancy of reward on tipping.  Nevertheless in some outlets service tranaslates as "speed" at all costs such as food quality and the ability to allow people to have a meal as a social event rather than simpoly wolf it down so the waiting staff can get their next covers.

Nation, no. Your government is responsible for the colonization of foreign lands, destruction of native civilizations, the Balfour Declaration, the political boundaries in the Middle East which are causing us so much trouble now . . .

Having said that, I've met some Brits, Scots and Irish whose company I've enjoyed.

By the way, the queen whom you wish to save so much would still use the guillotene on you, if it wasn't so old fashioned.

I'm a patriotic American and I love Britian. Their sense of style, decorum and tradition are admirable, Thier cities are historic thier villages are quirky and quaint.

Unfortunately the UK can't afford its health care system. Its national debt is almost as big as the US's. but it is only 1/3 the size.

Too bad, I like the Brits, most of American History starts from there.

Are you talking about the Commonwealth as part of the British, or are you talking just the UK?  I personally don't think it is even in the top three.  Britian doesn't really give to the rest of the world, except for the laughs we all get about the Royal family and their antics

I never though of it as one of the greatest nations but it may be since they have been on top of their game prior to America's start.  I do know that their currency is the most valuable in the world right now and that they have a decent economic state.  It seems like an alright place but I have heard the food is awful there.

If you are going to say your nation is one of the greatest in the world, you kind of need to back up reasons for your statement.  Like I think America is one of the greatest nations, as I am American.  I think that because We have freedom of speech, we get to choose our own religion and dont have religion forced on us, we have more freedom than we know what to do with, I dont have to wear a big black cloak over me, like women in other nations are suppose to, I have the freedom to dress however I want, I dont have to get permission from my government to have children like some other nations do.... theres just to many to great things about America to say....

I don't think you're talking about the British Isles here - I think you mean England (I'm taking a clue from your second statement about the illegitimate occupier of your throne - I believe the legitimate King of England is a rice farmer who lives in Australia)

Learn your history - look what your nation did to my Nation and my fellow Celts over the centuries, not to mention the havoc that you've caused all over the world with the English Empire (please don't call it British - it's an embarrassment to the rest of us)

Historically wise, by far it is the greatest nation in Western Europe besides Italy, which had Rome to contend with Britain. The British Royal Family is one of the biggest contributing factors to our great culture and history. Now, however, Britain has gone downhill along with many of the once great nations, such as America.

I love being British, but I'm sure if I had been born in Greece, I'd love being Greek too, or Italian, or Indian or whatever.  There's lots of great things in every single nation in the world - that's what makes life great.
