Who thinks 'fundamentalist' isn't such a bad word?

Why do so few people seem willing to hold to the Bible against the disapproval of a totally lost world that doesn't know any better?

It depends on the definitions being used.

Unfortunately to many "Fundamentalist" is bad - it refers to Myopic people who will abuse their Faith for a "greater purpose". Usually this means misusing a Spiritual message to spread their personal brand of poisonous hate speech - with no regard to the overall damage this will give to the reputation to EVERYONE from that particular faith.

Because it is so dogmatic. It is the intellectual equivalent of sticking your head in the sand and taking pride in keeping it there. It is one thing to hold to one's beliefs in the face of unjustified disapproval. It is another thing entirely to hold to one's beliefs in the face of evidence and logic.
