Question:

Who thinks Alnwick Castle is a waste of money?

I visited Alnwick Castle today with my son. It cost me £8 to get into the Tree House and the Garden....fair enough, but the Castle cost about £13 for me and him.

When we got there it was rubbish! There's virtually nothing to see and is mostly made up of private accomodation. What a waste of money! I was really annoyed.

We like to visit other Castles in the area and they're good value for money, but I think that Alnwick is just after making loads of money out of people........why are there restaurants every 100 yards as well?

Even the Treehouse has a restaurant in it.......couldn't it have been made into a child's play area or something. My son was so disappointed when we eventually got there.

The place is obsessed with feeding people - in order to make more money of course, and it's just no child friendly enough.

  1. I enjoyed my visit there with the kids ,but we never go in the houses, we just do the gardens and grounds and always take a picnic as there are always picnic facilities at these places, this cut s down alot on the expense,

My kids dont like doing the lived in castles anyhow, they much prefer going to derelict castles and there are a lot of these that are very reasonable to visit, shame you didnt enjoy your day.

  2. It's a great day out for the Kids, but Yes, I agree with you. It is over priced, but then again, that's why the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland are rolling in it..

  3. im 13 nd in durham shincliffe.  i agree even though the restourant was a dissapointment and so was everything else( due to the building) the birds and flowers were great for my parents and grandparents but me and my sis and bro wer so bored apart from the fountain and mini tractors but i was bored stiff

the prices are i agree outrageous for what you get and the hyp up is such a dissappointment

  4. Long time since I went to Alnwick - I'm guessing all the money making stuff is new - it was pretty bland faire when I was last there & no-where much to even buy a sandwich!

I'm guessing that the latest incumbent has decided to make it pay its way to stop it falling into ruin.
