It took me an hour on a mobile phone to try to explaine to an overseas call centre that I had a physical break in my phone line that needed repair.

All I kept getting from them was that my new line had been connected.

They and I could not understand each other. In the end it took a week for an engineer to call for a two min splice job.Grrrrrrrrr.

  1. Cos they have the monopoly.

    The gits :-/

  2. When it was really windy a little while back, a tree blew over and broke the phone line, BT took 6 months, YES 6 MONTHS to come out and fix it!!! the landline had to be diverted to the mobile phone which costed even more with the divert charge! Hundreds of excuses like not our fault so its not our problem, the tree is protected and we dont send out engineers on Sundays!!! They even asked if the phone was plugged in!

  3. hi must say touch wood have not had any problems????

  4. Yes i agree they are terrible. I had a fault on my line the other day and tried talking to some asian assistant. I was cut off. I called agen another asian assistant was on the line and i couldnt even understand what they were saying. It took three times before i got to some one i could understand. Absoultely shocking.

  5. BT are c**p altogether. . and it doesn't help when you have a problem that would take 5 mins ends up taking an hour because we cant understand the customer service agent on the other end,. I'm with BT but i am in the process of switching to another cheaper better provider. my last bill for phone and broadband was £250 for the r3 months.  . ridiculous. !! BT suck.!!

  6. Actually all repairs to land lines in the UK are now maintained by BT Openreach, which is an offshoot from BT. If you report a fault it will go to BT retail who then have to get in touch with Openreach, who will come to repair the fault.

I switched away from BT 9 years ago and had a fault a few months ago, my company got in touch with Openreach, the morning I reported it, and my company called me back 5 times that day keeping me informed with the progress, Openreach came next day and fixed the fault. My company then called me back 3 times the next week to check that everything was still OK.

If you want a really good provider get back to me and I will put you in touch with them, also later this year they will have a superb digital phone service, with the added bonus of video phones, forget skype and web cams, this new service which is available in the US now, will leave them standing.

  7. Actually, most of the repair services are in the uk. One of the biggest problems is that when you report a problem, the operator will automatically run a line test which often says that the problem may lie with equipment that you have running off the line, ie sky, internet connections, gaming equipment etc and when asked to remove all that and put a normal phone into the socket, a lot of people get annoyed with having to do that and wont accept that without the test, it cant be proven that the fault lies with bt equipment. Im not saying that this is the case for everyone, but if the engineer comes out and finds that there isnt a fault with bt equipment, the call out fee is high!
