Who thinks Carnival cruise lines is the worst cruise line?

I just came back from a carnival cruise that was supposed to go to the grand cayman islands and ocho rios, but due to a passenger becoming critically ill on the boat they had to turn around and drop the passenger off at key west, thus forfieting grand caymen. Which is fine they did what they had to do. They only reimbursed the passengers 25 dollars for not going to the grand caymen islands. I called carnival when I got back home to request a 50% refund and they offered me another 25 dollars and they were very rude to me. So I said that I was going to be contacting a lawyer, and the supervisor at guest relations said, that I better not call back because from here on out no carnival employees are to have any communications with me and then he resended the extra 25. Are there any other people who have had bad expericences with carnival and how was it handled?

  1. I sailed on Carnival Triumph to Miami-San Juan-St. Thomas-St. Croix-Miami.

It was ok.  I haven't been on another cruise line so I can't compare Carnival to anyone else.

It sounds like you had one bad experience due to an unforseen medical emergency. I would give it another try and maybe ask for 30% off of another cruise.

  2. Yes!  We took a cruise on our honeymoon and it was so horrible.  We actually cruised by a rendering plant where they burn animal bodies and it smelled so bad I almost was ill.  There were so many things wrong with the cruise.  From the terrible food to the rude employees, I can't even begin to name everything that was terrible.  We didn't get any money, only a discount on our next cruise.  Yeah right, not even if I was in a shipwreck floating on a door and Jack was dying next to me and they offered to rescue us would I get on a Carnival ship again.

  3. I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Carnival. This can & DOES happen on ANY cruise line though. It is good to know a cruise line values each & every person's life, if the passenger was critically ill, they certainly did the right thing by turning back

As another post mentioned, tendering in GC is limited due to the weather, they needed to make up the time so you could enjoy your next port of call.

I have sailed Carnival 4 times, Royal Caribbean twice, Celebrity & Princess once.

I have enjoyed all for various reasons, however I find the Carnival fleet to be "the funship"  Our age ranges from early 30's to mid 60's, all of us feel the food & service is great, especially for the price.

The staff has always been very friendly, always keeping things clean, handrails, removing dirty dishes, etc ( well, the bathrooms on the lido decks of both RCI & Carnival get pretty bad )

I hope your next vacation goes smoother for you!

  4. Getting re-routed due to medical emergencies and weather is not limited to Carnival.

We were on Royal Caribbean and were forced to miss the Grand Caymans due to weather.  RC did not offer us any compensation for missing the port.

Missing the Grand Cayman stop is common since you have to tender at this port and the slightest amount of bad weather can prevent the tenders from running.

Although the StingRay adventure is fun, Grand Cayman is not that great compared to some of the other ports.  People are rude, the shore excursions are not planned/scheduled very well and it is expensive.

We have cruised many times with Carnival and only had one major issue.  I continued to escalate up the customer service chain (everyone has a manager...) until I was satisfied.

  5. When you said that you were going to sue they had the right to stop helping you. Any further action including giving you $25 would bias the case. If you read the fine print in the contract they have the right to alter the cruise for any reason. Be happy that you got the initial $25.

  6. When you pay rock bottom prices, don't expect the best service.  If you said you paid for $2500+ for a suite, then I can see your point, but for a $700 cruise, I think what you got was value enough.

And once you threaten to make it a legal matter, any customer service rep for any company is usually instructed to stop communicating with you and direct you to their legal department.

Sounds to me as if you're just sour and looking for something that you probably shouldn't get and saying anything you possibly can to try and get it.

Good luck and hopefully you'll enjoy your next cruise.  I would suggest upgrading your room next time; it's much more comfortable and I have found that when push comes to shove it's almost always worth it for everything you get.

  7. never sailed with carnival i read too many negative reports on this cruise line i always sail royal caribbean i have had no mishaps with them and ships dont have as much sickness as carnival . sorry about your cruise i know that sucked !

  8. I have heard lots of complaints including people likening it to a cattle car and not eating the horrific food.  I stay away from Carnival for that reason.
