I used to like him when HE WAS WITH THE HAWKS. Now that he's with THE WINGS, I hate him.

  1. If he's not on your team, you hate him.  He's one of those guys.  Personally, I think he's so flippin awesome :)

  2. I will say the same as the "informed" people on this thread.  CHELIOS DID NOT ASK TO BE TRADED TO THE WINGS.  I'm sure the first thing that went through his head was "d**n it, not the ****ing Wings".  The second thing that went through his head was... "Wait a minute, the Hawks are going down and the Wings are eternal.  This will extend my career to the age of 50."  It was the right thing for both teams to do.  Chelios has been greatly effective for the Wings since.  This year was the first year that I noticed his ability start to slip.  He was a big part of the 2002 Cup team.  If he wasn't traded, his career would have been over a long time ago.  That isn't a traitor.  In my mind he will always be a Hawk, and should have his number retired there, but I greatly enjoyed his time in Detroit.

This is just another example of the class of the Hawks fan.  CHELIOS did not ruin your team or leave it... Bill Wirtz was the bad guy.  He didn't care about winning, just money.  I know first hand how the Hawks fans treat their own.  In the years since Chelios left, the Hawks fans didn't give a c**p about their team.  The only time the games sold out was when the Wings were in town.  That due to the fact that it was full of Wings fans and Hawks fans that cared more about the Wings losing, than the Hawks winning.  The only chants to be heard were... Red Wings suck.  Rarely did I hear people cheering for the Hawks, just jeering the Wings and their fans.

Get over it.  I was a huge Fedorov and Shanahan fan, they left and I am still a fan of them both.  Robert Lang and Jason Williams are now Hawks.  I still am a fan of both.  Especially Williams.  Chelios owes NOTHING to the Hawks and their fans, because they gave him nothing.

According to your logic, Since the Hawks traded Chelios to the Wings, Chelios should have just quit hockey right then instead of playing for the Wings.

Let me ask you... If you magically were given NHL quality hockey talent and were told you would play a regular shift in the NHL for many years to come, but could ONLY play for the Red Wings, would you say no???  I'll tell you, if it was me and I had to play for the Hawks or Avs, or any other team I really don't care for... I would do it.

  3. He's an unrestricted free agent he may sighn with the Hawks.

and no he's not a traitor.

  4. Yeah, It's not like he left in the middle of a contract and went to sign with the Wings, I'm pretty sure they got rid of him. You need to get your facts strait my friend.

  5. There was a youtube video that i saw and he was saying how much he hated the wings, i dont know what happned

  6. WHOA.... The Hawks gave up on him! He never gave up on the HAWKS! They believed he was about done and would retire in a few years when he was traded....

"On March 23, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings for Anders Eriksson and two first-round draft picks."

The Hawks clearly made a mistake thinking his career was about to end.... Chelios did nothing!

  7. sounds like an emotional problem

  8. He's not a traitor.  If thats how you feel then he should be a traitor to the Montreal Canadians not the hawks.  Players move around.  Thats how the game goes nowadays.

  9. Glad someone shares my sentiment, I have been saying that for a long time.

  10. as a Wings fan I can say I have never cared for Chelios my mom loves him they share the same b day and she has his game worn Jersey but i always tease her with his age and playing style, I could care less where Chelios goes but i don't want him back

  11. I can relate. I absolutely WORSHIPPED Patrick Roy when he was a Canadien so to see him traded to the Avalanche - who until the year before were the Nordiques was more than die-hard Habs fans could bear, especially as (if I remember right) it was our last year playing at the Forum.

I know there's a rivalry between the Blackhawks and Redwings (my brother went to Northwestern when Chelios was still in Chi-town), but in Quebec hockey is all people really follow, the only sport in which many within the Francophone majority can identify with the players.

That's why it's so special when a Quebecois player like Ribeiro comes up with the CH, why it hurts so much when they leave and why it feels great when one 'comes home'

Without making this into a rant, I mean this in that outside La Belle Province, there are other sports being played and watched that have somewhat equal fanfare.

  12. It was the Hawks that pushed him out, so if anybody is a traitor, wouldnt it be the Hawks?

  13. Let's not forget that they traded him to Detroit.

  14. I know Chelios,

    I've played with his kids,

and he's a nice guy if you get to know him....

    maybe not to Chicago fans,

But I don't see him as a traitor to Chicago at all.
