I agree and I respect his story. Incase you didnt know he has ADD and that is his way of channeling his energy. he is an amazing swimmer :) thanks to him USA has more golds then we would with out him

I have been involved in competitive swimming for 30 years.  I am very appreciative of what we just saw.  His accomplishment this week was other-worldly.  I think this could be the greatest Olympic accomplishment ever, but I don't understand why we have to rank everything when maybe there are no fair conversion factors between sports.

It was historic and mind-boggling.  Can't we leave it at that.

Everyone praises Phelps as the greatest olympian of all time, but Spitz's record held for 36 years!!!! And he did exactly what phelps did: won all the competitions there were. It just happens that they were only 7 at the time. If Phelps record holds for 20 or more years, I'll grant him the greatest olympian of all time title in my book. If not, then he's just the first of a new generation of athletes. Awesome athlete though. But not good enough to pass the test of time. As in everything, time will tell... but for Spitz, time already told, and his record held for 36 years. That is also awesome...

For now let's just say that Phelps is the best Olympian of this generation. Better than Spitz? Ask again in 20 years...

you cant judge people to be the greatest olympian ever because different sports require different skills. yes he may be the greatest swimmer but not the greatest olympian.

and besides swimmers have more of a chance of getting gold b/c they have sooo many different races which is why he has so many gold
