Is this just another example of bias in the media? They looked terrible against UT, granted they won but in far less than convincing fashion. I am well aware that these early season polls are just about as useless as the pre-season polls but year after year the media shows how awe-struck they are by bright lights, compelling story lines, and west coast teams. I still think UT is the better team... Whatcha think? Oh and I completely agree with USC being in the top spot.

  1. I do. they played a good second half.

  2. It is one win.  I love UCLA, but realize it is going to take some time.  They have alot of problems.  The D will keep them in most games though.  We can thank Norm Chow for that win.  That QB still worries me.  Chow had to call the easiest short routes for him.  Teams will start moving up and he will struggle.  He was third string for a reason.  It was one game.  Plus Tennesse is a middle of the road SEC team this year.  If UCLA finish in the top 25 great, but I realize it is a long season.

  3. Well, I agree with you about the fact the the early polls are worthless. In all honesty, you don't really have any sense of your team until 4-5 games in at the very least.

However, they did knock off the #18 team, and no..UT is not better than UCLA, or at least they didn't look like it last night. Tennessee wasn't able to turn 4 interceptions into anything more than 7 points, which is really pretty pathetic. They also need a new kicker like whoa. And really, the only thing that looked horrible with UCLA was their QB, in the first half. The defense looked great, or at least equal to UT, and the QB looked like a completely different person in the second half. Perhaps he's shaken off the jitters & rust...or perhaps not. I think they deserve to be in the top 25, at least for this week.

Don't get me wrong, I'm no UCLA or Pac-10 fan at all (obviously), but if they indeed arn't really that good, then they'll be out of the top 25 just as quickly as they got in, and if UT is better, then we'll see them climb right back up. The media might like the Pac-10 too much, but they have also been completely in love with the SEC during the last 3 years as well, so I think it goes both ways...

  4. I think that UCLA should be in the Top 25 because they beat tough Tennessee team, and showed vast improvement throughout the game.  If it were up to me I would rank them No. 25 instead of No. 23.  It's only Week 1 anyways... they have plenty of time to show whether that they deserve the ranking or not.

    FYI: Pac10 is 5-1 vs. non-conference in 2008

  5. The University of Tennessee thinks they should be there.  :-)

  6. agree with you on early/pre-season polls usually worthless.  but UCLA deserves a top 25 spot since they beat one h**l of a team in Tennessee.

  7. Agree, they are going to start their season great! i think they should be in the top 15

  8. UCLA had a great game monday night. Defense was excellent. Looks like UCLA has their new star ,qb #3 Kevin Craft.  Their win was a huge upset! and a great start to new season. I absolutely believe UCLA deserved that victory over RANKED 18! Tenn. I've always believed that the team who wants it the most will win, hands down. If Tenn really wanted it, they wouldn't have taken it into ot. Come on, not even ranked UCLA beat Tenn with 3 injured seniors out of the game. what's Tenn excuse?

So in this case i do believe UCLA is the better team. Maybe Tenn will win when it really matters, but only time will tell.

  9. UCLA looked terrible on OFFENSE against Tennessee.  UCLA's defense was incredibly good.  For the moment, UCLA probably deserves a spot near the bottom of the top 25; after all, they are undefeated and they did beat a highly ranked team.  However, I doubt that UCLA will be able to hold onto a spot in the top 25 for long.

I'm not sure if Tennessee is a better team than UCLA, but they are certainly a more balanced team.  UCLA's can't play offense at all, whereas UT's offense is at least slightly functional.

In any case, I bet that both teams end the season unranked, and that final ranking is the one that really counts.

  10. Actually they r now, every week they make changes, and when i was watching NFL Live on ESPN it said they were 23 on the rankings so yea they r now

  11. Maybe at the #25 spot is as high as I would put them.  There offense stunk last night, but the defense played a great game.  They also played at home and usually defense's play better there.  Ethier way UCLA is probably the second best team in there weak confrence, were UT is at best the fourth or fifth best team in the SEC.  They both aren't very good this year, however if the game was at UT, I think the outcome would have been different.

  12. I agree!!!  =)

  13. UCLA only deserves to be in one of the Top 25 poll spots if they earn it. UCLA has been there before but right now the top 25 still seems to evade them. As for Utah, I can tell you this they have not been heard by the east much more than they all ready are now.

  14. YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!
