  1. There are now as many reality based martial arts and mma mcdojos as there are "take ones dough" dojos. It was bound to happen .Anything that becomes popular attracts hustlers and con men.

Plus these modern ma dont even have to produce a certificate to prove the actually know anything effective.

ALL MARTIAL ARTS work in the street when properly taught and practiced .The bicycle kick sellers and chi "experts" are nothing more than no talent never were never gonna be never tried to be losers.

No serious ma believes in that hocus pocus.

UFC doesn't disgrace ma but the hype and phony grudge matches and threatening behaviour does .

  2. I don't think is a disgrace to Martial Arts.

Its just a Western Martial Arts and its different from East Asian Martial Arts

  3. If you are saying UFC then you are meaning all other organizations along with it.  No it isn't a disgrace,  if you actually understood MMA then you prolly wouldn't think that it was a disgrace that's why it is MIXED martial arts, not just one martial art that competitors are fighting... If you are passionate about what ever Martial Art you are interested in you should be thrilled that people are using in these competitions.

  4. BUSHIDO, I would have to agree with you on that one though surely no one else liked that answer... Big surprise. So I gave the thumbs up.

  5. The UFC saved martial arts.  It's done more for the arts than 300 years of "my teachers teacher was greater than your teachers teacher" ever could.

What did we have before the UFC?  At best, Muay Thai and Gracie Tournaments, maybe boxing.

At the worst, countless point sparring tournaments that were a painful joke.  And sensei and sifu to numerous to mention telling people about their chi powers and how their style trains them to not go to the ground.

Now most know that is bullshit, and its all because of the UFC.  The UFC (and it's spin offs, PRIDE, etc.) have produced champions that could compete with the greatest martial artists in history and stand a very good chance of winning.

I believe we're currently in a golden age of martial arts, and people like you could appreciate it if you could pull your head out of your *** long enough to see what is really out there.  Train MMA.  You don't have to compete if its too tough for you, but train it and watch the mythology you've been taught evaporate.

  6. It just proves that your flying bicycle kicks and chi disrupting death touches don't actually work in a real fight. It has removed a lot of the mystical BS out of martial arts, which is a good thing.

  7. No i do not think the UFC is a disgrace, but I think some of the fighters are because of their attitudes, and the way they conduct themselves.

I also think, in my  own opinion, that it should be called Mixed fighting techniques, because that is essentially the only side of the martial arts it shows.

BTW I have met many traditional people, mainly from McDojo's, that area dsigrace by their actions and the way they carry themselves also.

  8. There is a lot of areas that the UFC should fix up, but I don't think that the UFC is a disgrace to martial arts.

  9. i think it is a disgrace it is nothing but street fighting if you put a UFC fighter in the ring with Bruce Lee or Jet Li you would see them be defeated.

  10. UFC promotes MMA the sport, not MMA the martial art. It's apples and oranges. Comparing UFC and martial arts is like comparing MMA and Boxing, they are two completely different things. Of course the sport version of MMA isn't anything like a real fight on the streets. If it were it wouldn't be sanctioned. MMA has been developed to a completely sport form, not a martial art. A martial art form of MMA would be completely different from the sport form. In sport form it must be developed so that it conforms to rules while a martial art has no rules. So basically, MMA is a sport and not a martial art.

  11. I agree with joecarr19.

UFC is not a disgrace to ma as its a fully sports based activity with far too many rules and over hyped Americanised made for TV viewing ,take away the rules, the conveniently poised ref to intervene due to health and safety and then you'll truly see no holds barred fighting as when it first appeared in ufc 1 .

  12. i think that most of the ppl that answer here talk absolute sh.t..

no its not a disgrace its a form of entertainment no different than world championship wrestling or a movie or listening to the radio.

any martial artist knows that cross training is the key,we didn't need ufc or mma to point that out.you also need to be a master of 1(and then crosstrain) not an imcomplete wanna be of different styles to be able to defend yourself in all situations.any idiot can get in a ring with a ref and win a fight.ring fighting and defending yourself in a situation where someone could potentially take your life is worlds apart.

  13. Not a disgrace. However, I don't feel that it is an accurate portrayal of a martial art, but rather a form of martial sport.

It's funny: my dojo has had UFC hopefuls come in and leave, unable to keep up and uninterested in the things that can't be used in competitions, while we've had guys in the UFC who have been beaten soundly. I could only come to one conclusion regarding this: just because martial arts are effective for self-defense doesn't make them effective in sport competitions; as well, just because styles work in sport competitions doesn't make them effective on the street.

I strongly believe that they are not, and should not be confused as, the same things.

  14. How can you ask a question like this? UFC has made MIXED martial arts more mainstream and has furthered its acceptance. Also, you are comparing two totally different things. MMA is a SPORT and is regulated as such. Also, you have to learn several different arts.

  15. it has helped martial arts more than anything since its conception. it has produced some of the greatest fighters of all time. it dispelled many of the martial art myths too. it is very good and entertaining to watch.

  16. disgrace

  17. me ,its a disgrace to gong fu

  18. Only those that do not want the weaknesses of their art exposed

  19. UFC is not a disgrace to martial arts. So many people have started taking a martial art based on a fire started by UFC. I myself started taking karate after interest in UFC. Additionally, would we have ever heard of BJJ if the UFC wasn't around?

  20. Not me!

  21. what have you been smoking?

  22. UFC is nothing but egocentric barbarian neanderthals contributing to the process of de-evolution

  23. First of all, I want to say that ALL martial arts and boxing contests are phony, even the UFC.  Why?  Because of there were not an element of phony, one person would have to die in order for their to be a clear victor.   The only thing that I don't like about the UFC are the people who think that the UFC proves that 100% of TMA is useless.

That being said, I am GLAD THE UFC CAME ALONG because it gave TMA the kick in the behind it so sorely needed and still needs.  What is this poppy-c**k in the US about only studying one style?  Why not strike AND grapple?  Say what!

I have used TMA in real fights and I've seen other people use TMA in real fights.  Nobody I've seen who pulled off their traditional techniques only studied ONE style exclusively.  They may have one style they preferred over another, but, they had one style that was strongEST and another one that was strong or mid-level.

Tons of karate and taekwondo senseis/sabunims know Judo.  There are Judo champs who know Karate and have played with Western Boxing.  A wing chung master told me that what Lee did with JKD was what wing chung students did for years:  go out and learn other styles to fill in the holes.  He said JKD was Lee's expression of wing chung.

This thing about the UFC being "bad":  only in the sense that there are muscle heads who will think that because they are buff and do some MMA that means they can beat EVERY TMAer.  Nope.  MOST:  probably.  EVERY?  No.

And please, for those of you who are new to martial arts: don't think that because you took a few weeks or months of MMA or because you watched Brandon Vera fight that you can walk into a Taekwondo school and beat up an assistant instructor because everyone on the internet says Taekwondo sucks.   These days, thanks (and thank you very much) to the UFC, one of those instructors may also be a grappler/former wrestler.

  24. if you mean the ufc as far as techniques and the concept of MMA competition then certainly not, if you mean dana white bieng a disgrace then well- i can't argue with that, he's an ***.

seriously though the basic level of self-delusion and self-denial I'm seeing here is ridiculous.

what you think the laws of physics change when you step on the sidewalk?

yes, there are SOME techniques that are not permitted for safety reasons but let me ask you "anti-mma" delusion victims.  How often do you train those techniques full resistance, hard contact. yes, I would like to see the ufc rules changed more to reflect the old pride rules, i prefer those.

however if you are self-deluding to think your forms and as someone else put it "flying bicicle kicks" are going to end you up anywhere but on your *** with smokey standing over you with some choice words as you lose consiousness you got a 420cc dose of reality waiting for you.

MMA has exposed the frauds, it has created a method to expose prior crappy training and set a standard. does the standard apply 100% of the time, no.  are there techniques that can ONLY work in the ufc or mma comp that can't work in a non sport scenario- none that I can think of.  so how is it a "disgrace" if anything point sparring is a disgrace.

martial arts comps that are not full contact are a disgrace.

"no touch sparring" (an oxymoron) is a disgrace.

people who say it is a disgrace are generally looking for an excuse to justify thier crappy training. people don't want to admit that they wasted thier time and made a mistake.  any teacher that doesn't recognize mma comp overal as a reality and just discounts it is a fool.  yes there are some things that can't be used in the ufc/mma comps and some counters that can be used against techniques allowed in the ufc that are not allowed (the counters aren't allowed), but at the end of the day "how often do you train them"?

and what makes you think a fighter who fights by a ruleset is not cognizant of those?

the old "its just a sport" is baloney we've heard forever, and we've seen boxers take apart fake black belts for decades (hence the reason why no one respects the "i am a black belt" anymore). why? because boxing has more techniques, no, because it trains what it does teach extremely well and realistically.

ask yourself, is it really mma comp that is a disgrace or is it your training methodology, school and teacher that are?

anyone who doesn't respect the reality of mma comps is fooling themselves and is a disgrace.

  25. Well UFC is not a style but a show/tournament.

Is this tournament a disgrace? Well it's definitely not considered as a disgrace in Japan. It's not that it's popular or famous or anything but as long as they can fight and win, they're respected and I think this perspective/view is pretty much global.

Martial arts was first created to kill people since it was created for war purpose. Then it started to soften down since there was no necessity to train like you're preparing for war although I would like to train like that. I wonder how UFC could be considered a disgrace.

Martial artists constantly competes against others to become a better fighter and to see who's better. That's not a rare thing. You need to learn more about martial arts. Martial arts is not a peaceful religious gathering.

  26. no way!!!!.have you seen anderson silva his techniques are amazing!!!! thats just one of the many amazing artist in the ufc!!!
