Who thinks ebay is a complete rip-off?

I'm talking about selling ofcourse, I mean you have, insertion fee's, final value fee's, paypal fees and more if you have to relist. Their fee's went up recently, I don't understand, running a website with no huge content can't be that hard, okay I know they are a huge company and have millions of visits a day or whatever, but surely, the billions they make are not just for the website, they are genuinely extorting money to make more profit, because they have essentially become a monopoly in online auction sites.

These "fee's" are huge now, Final Value Fee's are now 9.9%, paypal take about 5% and insertion fee's depend on price of listing, but essentially ebay will end up take upto 15% off the value of the item sold everytime you sell something.

Not to mention, ebay is full of fakes, cheap imports and fraudsters, so what justification have ebay got to consistently raise their fee's, paypal can legally freeze your account fot upto a month or can hold back payments if they want, not to mention the hassle of dealing with them when someone doesn't send you what you bought.

Sorry, I kind of rattled away from my main point, that's just how bad it is, I started using ebay 2 years ago, but since then it's become expensive, so what do you think about ebay's fee's.

  1. I'm not sure about the selling side, but i would never use the site, i know more than one person (including my sister) who has had their bank account debited fraudulently through their e-bay paypal accounts.

  2. i do

  3. Totally agree with you AD H. E-bay has practically become a silent partner in the joint ownership of the item you sell! £82 for posting an item on their site and instantly debiting your bank account, is a total rip-off.  The new fee's of 5.9% and 9.9% is extortion and I for one will not be using E-bay to sell anymore. Surely the only justification for this would be if E-bay was using the money to enhance security, from fraudulent users, for its members - we all know this will not be happening. E-bay used to be a place to find the odd bargain but with the price hikes, sellers obviously put there prices up, to compensate and these bargains are now minimal and hardly worth the effort or risk.

  4. I do!

Pay pal is also a rip off too.

  5. I've been using Ebay for years and I agree, it's gotten worst and worst for the honest everyday seller especially.  More fees, more rules, they say they are making it better for everyone, but I think they are really looking after their own self interests.

  6. yup

  7. The answer to this question will be awarded to the highest bidder..

    Click [HERE] to bid

    haha

  8. Thanks for the low down on ebay, there are allot of items I would not dream of buying until I actually had a look at the item - think ebay is cutting there own throat.

  9. Definately, they take too much money for simple services.

  10. Like any business there are expenses rent or lease, hydro, taxes ,wages

and so on. It's called the cost of doing business. You are not forced to deal there. Try setting up your own retail business and you will find out for yourself

  11. Yes, i agree 100%, theyre shooting themselves in the foot, and these days its all geared up in the buyers favour!! and they blatantly allow fakes to be sold, i know one user has reported a seller time and again for selling fakes and guess what?? theyre still there!! The fees are an absolute rip-off, if they let you sell items free of charge up to say £20 and anything more you would pay a fee, then that might encourage people, instead of bumping it up and up!!!

  12. Try selling your stuff on MarketWall:

    http://marketwall.com

MarketWall is a good free site for selling locally.

  13. If your looking for ways to make money on the internet I suggest you take a look at http://youllwanttoseethis.com they have a ton of free internet marketing information free.

  14. yeah, it can be costly but there are a few tricks that you can do first of all if you list an item at 0.99 its cheaper than jacking it up to 9.99. also the amount of days that you set your item 7 days is cheaper than 10 day but then again that can get you more bids. i think to be succesful on ebay is to get a ton of c**p and sell it a low prices instead of a few things at high prices. aslo its best to do a little research on the things people on ebay really buy. another thing that i do is add the fees that they take off to my shipping fees so i can just get all that money back. good luck and i hope this helps
