  1. I am a senior this year, back to homeschooling after a long hiatus. I'm missing prom, my class ring, and senior day. I'm not too worried about it, honestly. I'm getting my classes done, graduating early, doing things I love but would have to miss if I went to public school. I'm not missing arrogant jocks, shallow girls, mindless classes, or unqualified teachers. I'm not missing cafeteria lunches, worrying about how I look, or riding the bus. I'm all for homeschooling. It's saving me time and actually teaching me something.

  2. I think it's a good idea. Personally, I am in it for the long haul :) I plan to homeschool all 4 of my children all the way through. Colleges do accept homeschooled children, and there are even ways to get scholarships for them.

  3. Not if you were schooled prior to that.  PRobably the worst idea, unless the homeschool offers an accredited diploma.

If you're going to homeschool you need to do it from 9th or 10th grade.

Doing the senior year has a potential of mixing Apples with Oranges in the GPA evaluation and class accredation.

  4. I'm a junior and I'm homeschooled. I've been homeschooled since I was in 8th grade. I love it.

When it comes to homeschooling, I think you either love it or hate it. It's for some people..but for some people it's not.

I have to disagree with the ignorant answer from above---homeschoolers DO get accepted to colleges. In fact we're accepted easier because we tend to be smarter and better achievers. Most colleges seek out homeschoolers. As far as diplomas go, your city should provide one. Most cities have homeschooling groups that even have graduation ceremonies.

  5. Contrary to the first answer, I think homeschooling in the late teen years provides a far better learning and 'real-world' experience then being in a public school.

Instead of being insulated with only their peer group, they can be out volunteering, working, or taking college classes. They can spend more time evaluating what they'd be interested in pursuing in college and afterwards. They'll actually spend more time with adults.  Additionally, colleges are actively courting homeschoolers these days.

Provided the student and parents take active roles in college prep and looking for great experiences for them to be involved in, homeschooling high schoolers is a marvelous idea!

  6. We've homeschooled 3 seniors so far - they actually homeschooled all the way through.  They have graduated, gone on to do great things in college and the work place.

If you are just wanting to homeschool for just the senior year though, it may not be as easy as you think.  You have to meet state laws: http://www.hslda.org will help you find out what they are in your state.  You will have to come up with classes to finish out your high school classes.  Find out the requirements for college entrance and/or graduation in your area.  You can Google for your State Department of Education to find out state graduation requirements. Then check the admissions site for any college to see what there entry requirements are.

You will want to get a copy of the current high school transcript if you have attended public high school.  You will need to add your homeschool classes to it for the college admissions process.

You may also want to check into concurrent studies with the school district and a local college.  That is when you take college classes for credit that also meet your graduation requirements.  Kills 2 birds with one stone and jumps you ahead at college nicely.

    Best to you!!

  7. Bad idea- what happens when he/she goes to college?  Total shock both emotionally and socially.  Homeschooling limits your interaction with others and especially at this age when you should be learning about the real world and interacting with it the worst thing you could do would be hide from it.
