  1. I like the idea of religion but, I do think it's overrated.

  2. If anything, religion is UNDERrated.

For instance, most people have NO idea how much good work the Catholic Church does.

Most people have no idea that the Catholic Church is the world's largest nongovernmental provider of charity and humanitarianism.

What's worse, the Catholic Church gets blamed for things that it did not cause.  It even gets blamed for things that are the result of behavior that the Church condemns.

For instance, many people blame the Church for the spread of AIDS -- even though AIDS is primarily spread through the very sort of sexual behavior that the Church disapproves of.

That's sort of like a kid blaming his mother for his broken arm, after he ignored his mother when she told him not to jump from the top of the jungle gym.

    .

  3. It is taught for morals, support and guidence. Well ofcourse if I was adopted by a society that had no religion, I wouldn't find my way to my religion, but if I was adopted by parents who didn't have and religion and yet the society is filled with religion and options. I personnally think I'd find my way back to my religion becuase Im always going to need guidence, support and morals. Also becuase I think my religion makes sense (christianity) It answers all my questions about God, the bible, the world and life.

  4. I found my way to the point I am on my own. It was interesting visiting different areas and religious practices.

  5. *raises hand*

  6. I would not give much importance to religion if I were an atheist or an agnostic. As a believer I would be biased towards my own religion and would not accommodate any other persons religious beliefs. If you are a Christian would you believe in Hinduism or Buddhism? Similarly would you consider Muslims or Mormons as equal?Religion creates bias in everyone so I consider it overrated!

  7. I think religion is overrated.

If I was raised by different parents I would probably be worse off than I am now.  My parents raised me without any religious indoctrination and they valued education highly.

    ____

  8. I think so.  Religion is a tactic for fear, not morals.  I have seen more non-religious people with higher morals than these so-called self proclaimed religious nuts

  9. I love my religion or beliefs and wouldn't trade it for the world.  Even if I was adopted and so on as you put it, I would really hope I would find my way back to what I believe now.

  10. Oh totally, it's up there with love and the "good ol' days" in overratedness.

  11. I chose a spiritual path that is totally different than that of my family.

I would think that if I came of age in another time or in another society, I would have still asked the same questions that led me to where I am now.

There just would have been slightly different answers to those questions.

  12. religion was invented by man, god was invented by man, religion is a tool to control the masses. why beleive in a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.

  13. Atheists.

    And I kindof did...

I was raised brethren, converted to LDS. My mom is inactive LDS.

And it depends on how my adoptive parents were. My biological ones are very supporting and open to *most* decisions I make. If my adoptive parents would allow me to explore life and it's choices like my parent's did I'm sure I would end up to the same general conclusion....given the assumption I would be raised under the same, basic, environmental circumstances.

  14. Well, getting AIDS is also overrated. Everyone is like "It's the bomb ! You've got to try getting the AIDS, you'll love it !" but I've met some people with AIDS and they weren't all that happy with it. Apparently it has a downside.

  15. I do.

  16. I do!

  17. I was born an atheist and raised in a christian family . I never did fall into the religious trap because I started to read at 4 .

  18. Religion is an inherited belief just as language is inherited.
