  1. I'd love to see it. His serve and volley game would make such a refreshing change to the bang-from-the-baseline style everyone else is using. He's beaten Federer and Haas in exhibition matches in recent months, so there's no doubt his skill is still there. Maybe he's lost a foot-step or two over the years but he was never a Lleyton Hewitt kind of scrambler anyway. With his sheer firepower I don't see it hurting him. But, even inspite of everything I've said, I DO NOT think he should return. To gain a competitive ranking, he would have to dedicate himself maybe more than ever and I just don't see him doing it. In his prime he had to live such a rigidly structured and obsessive life that I just think it would be way too hard for him to go back to that. He has a wife and children and so much more to have to shut out of his life to succeed at tennis. I also feel, as great a champion as he was, he would not want to return unless it was to the very top. A guy who has won that many Majors and been ranked #1 for that long would simply not be content to get into the top 15 and reach a few quarters at the Slams. All-round, much as I'd love to see him back, I just don't see it happening and he'd be a fool to try.

  2. I would love to see him return to the tour but to answer your question, no I don't think he should.

Pete was reported to have been considering a comeback for last years Wimbledon. I was really excited at the prospect but it never happened. But now, Sampras is nearly 37 years of age and in a sport that is becoming increasingly physical and a 'young mans' game, I think it would be a mistake for him to return.

Nevertheless, Pete did beat Federer last year in an exhibition and looked every bit the player he was 10 years previously, He is still in great shape, Serving well and volleying. I think he could possibly return part time for the majors and the warm-up competitions. Agassi played to 36 and still was top 6 at the time but slipped to 25 from injury. Jonas Bjorkman and Santoro are still top 50 at 35 and 36 respectively. So yeah there is a possibility for a part-time return in which I think he would still be relatively successful. He is probably still one of the top 5 grass court players.

  3. I don't think that he can come back......

  4. He should return to the tour. His game was amazing and he could still dominate now. Federer and him always have close matches like the one at Madison Square Garden this year. His explosive serve could still blow all his opponents away. His groundstrokes would still be fast and magnificent.

  5. no...............

he is getting on with age...........I don't think He can win against young and fast athletes like Rafa, Roger

  6. hmmm... oi.. he's too old to play good tennis..

  7. While I would love to see Pete play again I really don't think that I would enjoy the prospect of this actually happening anytime in the near future.

The game has moved on since his era, he is obviously much older than every player at the top today, and then when you consider how much the Wimbledon grass courts are playing so much slower these days, I really don't see what kind of success Pete would have if he decides to make a comeback.

Personally I believe that retired players should remain retired and not ever contemplate a comeback. Unless if they retired young, e.g. Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters, and decided to make a comeback a few years after calling it quits, then I would gladly welcome a comeback. However history has shown us that most retired players tend to have a miserable time once they begin to compete again.

Therefore it would be very sad to see a once former great champion of the game, like Pete Sampras, be reduced to early round defeats and brutal losses to opponents that he would have easily beaten in his prime.

  8. no

  9. he's too old now. would have loved to see pistol pete in his prime against these players today though

  10. Boring. I don't think he would be good. He's too old and smelly (I sat near him at Mad Square and thought he smelled like cheese!!!)  pew pew pew!

  11. Ugh. I couldn't stand him the first time around.  Though, it would be great to watch him lose consistently.
