The last 2 races, in Top Fuel, Brandon Bernstein made it to the finals, but LOST BOTH OF THEM ON A FREAKING HOLESHOT WIN! Someone who wins on a holeshot win is NOT A TRUE WINNER! IT SHOULD BE THE PERSON WHO CROSSES THE FINISH LINE FIRST, NOT WHO HAS THE BETTER REACTION TIME! THAT IS REALLY, REALLY, REALLY STUPID!!!!!!!!! That makes me mad when someone wins on a stupid holeshot win! Could someone explain a holeshot win for me, please?

  1. Wow, you are apparently ranting on and on about something you know nothing about!  It's funny how you keep going on about  "holeshot wins" but yet then you ask what they are.  How could you have such strong feelings about something that you are so unfamiliar with?  The guy that crosses the finish line first IS the winner, end of story.

    3 STR8 N 08!!!

  2. A hole-shot only means they got off the line quicker.

The winner is the FIRST car across the finish line, not the quickest.

    Oh, and by the way...

    WRONG SECTION!!!!

  3. A "holeshot" win is not cheating, and the driver who wins on a holeshot did cross the finish line first.

In drag racing, the elapsed time (or ET) is the amount of time it took once the car breaks the starting line light until it crosses the finish line (in other words the time to run the 1/4 mile).  The reaction time (or RT) is the amount time it took between the tree turning green and the car breaking the starting line light.  When you combine both the reaction time and the ET, you get the total time from the green light to the end of the run.

A "holeshot" win is where one driver had a slower ET, but his reaction time was better by an amount so that his total time was quicker and he crossed the finish line first.  In other words, it took him longer to run the 1/4 mile than the other driver but his advantage off the line due to a better reaction time was enough to still beat the other car to the finish.

In last weeks Summit Racing Nationals, Doug Herbert beat Brandon Bernstein because his TOTAL time was faster and he beat Brandon to the line.  Herbert had an RT of 0.018 plus and ET of 4.636 for a total time of 4.654.  Bernstein had a faster ET of 4.611 but his RT of 0.081 put his total time at 4.692.  Therefore Herbet beat him to the line by 0.038 seconds.

  4. Where do people come up with this stuff? "Someone who wins on a holeshot win is NOT A TRUE WINNER! IT SHOULD BE THE PERSON WHO CROSSES THE FINISH LINE FIRST, NOT WHO HAS THE BETTER REACTION TIME! THAT IS REALLY, REALLY, REALLY STUPID!!!!!!!!!"

A "holeshot" winner is still the guy that crosses the finish line first they just got an advantage off of the line.

  5. This question should be removed from the NASCAR section and posed in the NHRA (drag racing section)

Holeshot in drag racing is when one driver gets a significant advantage off the starting line.

The other driver gets "holeshotted" or  "left Standing"

A "holeshot win" is any win in a heads-up class where a slower car beats a faster car because of better 'reaction' time
