Like its rude to not answer the phone, when someone is gonna interrupt you when you're doing something. But its rude to interrupt someone when they are in the middle of something, just for something small. And most of the phone calls you get are pretty unimportant. and if its important, leave a message.

  1. Uh, phone etiquette is NOT a big joke.

But you've got it wrong. Unless you're at work, and required to answer the phone, you have NO obligation to answer a phone just because it's ringing. People who think it's rude not to answer every summons are themselves rude.

As you point out, we all have the right to live our lives, and use our time as we see fit.

  2. it's not rude to not answer the phone...who know's if your home or not.  when you call someone and they are eating dinner, you should hang up tho, because in my familly it's rude to get up and talk on the phone during dinner.

  3. I'd much rather a person not answer the phone and allow me to leave a message than answer it and say, "Hey, can I call you back?" and then hanging up in my face.  I consider that much more rude.  If it's an emergency, my message will say so.  Them answering and cutting me off just means that Ihave to call them again and p**s them off with my persistence.
