Why in the world is the Olympics not covered by ESPN? I mean that is like a news channel not covering the news. That is just crazy. Besides that, on NBC, who can stay up night after night till 1 or 2am and then go to work. Can't they start the coverage like at 6pm and end it at 11pm. I realize a lot of it is live, but come on. I think it would be a lot better if the coverage was split between NBC and ESPN. I know NBC payed a lot of money to cover it, but it stinks!

  1. My biggest gripe regarding NBC's coverage is the fact that for both the mens 400m and mens 400m hurdles - which the U.S. swept - they did not show the medal ceremonies? WTF?? To my knowledge, there was only one other American sweep (winning gold silver and bronze) and that was one of the women's fencing division, but I don't remember if they actually showed the medal ceremony or not. It's an absolute disgrace that NBC choose not to show the track medal ceremonies though. I'm also a bit pissed about the fact that they managed to show what seemed to be hours of badminton and ping pong but could not feature any coverage of taekwondo. Sure, the U.S. has a returning gold medalist and two other medal contenders (and they're all siblings) but who cares...let's watch a semi-final ping pong match between China and Mongolia. Again though, I'm much more steamed about their choosing not to broadcast that Amerian sweeps medal ceremonies...perhaps NBC was afraid they would "offend" non-Americans by showing three, American flags being raised. Heaven forbid if that should happen. In the judgemental eyes of the rest of the world, we Americans must never show too much pride or patriotism in our athlete's accomplishments.

  2. It does stink!! they did a c**p job this time around.

  3. 'd say it's bad, because:

    1.  they're not showing basketball

    2. they didn't show the 1500 which i think was the most exciting event, simply because no americans were in it or because they figure the audience doesn't have an attention span past 4 minutes. in fact there was a hesitancy to show track events that took over a minute

    3. not enough focus on great non-US athletes

    4. they keep putting words into the athletes mouth's, telling us an athlete is going to be dissapointed because he/she won the silver or bronze, which might not necessarily be the case

    5. not enough cycling

    6. not enough gold medal matches of non-crucial sports

    7, a very pro-US stance in reporting

8; not NBC's fault but the time zones

  4. Yes, I agree that I was disappointed that a lot of the events I care about, such as gymnastics, all seemed to come on around 10 PM my time (Denver)- I seem to recall the coverage of Olympics past including gymnastics in their "prime-time" slot a lot earlier in the evening.  I have to go to bed around 10:30 or 11 at least because I need to be at work at 7 every morning, so I had to TiVo the gymnastics every night, and then by the time I could get home and watch it, I'd have already heard the results, no matter how careful I tried to be to stay away from them.  It was really disappointing.  ESPN could have just shown all Olympics, all the time, with the NBC networks only assisting with the coverage, and I think we'd all have been happier.

  5. We barely have any live coverage.  Tape delays kills all the excitement.  Its not nearly the same as watching a sports event live.
