  1. I agree with you. Yes we are all the same but some learn differently from others. The current way of thinking is all about inclusion which is a good thing but not everyone can cope with being included in mainstream. Those that have special needs shouldn't have to fight or prove that they need extra help sometimes it should be given as a right.

  2. The problem is that we are not all the same.  We all have different levels of learning.  Do you think that Michael Jordan was a basketball great just because he worked on it, etc?  No there is a genetic component involved! I could work at it twice as hard and not make it to be towel girl.

Sure there are fantastic teachers out there and poor teachers out there aka Clay's mom teacher.  However, when the ability level has been reached it has been reached.   Other countries, particulary European ones, have recognized this and offer different types of education based on school performance - a combination of ability and effort.  Why has America not responded to this?

  3. I know I would like to see better education for all students, including those with disabilities.  Education  in the USA has especially improved for that group of students since 1975.  We still have a lot of work to do.  It will take effort from students (in both general and special ed), parents, teachers, support staff, administrators, the government, and all people in our society.

  4. My brother is special needs and all he does at school is draw and make silly little things that the teachers mostly do for them anyway. I think that they should do other things- especially the more able bodied people. They could maybe write and stuff.

  5. There are only only few people who specialize in teaching these student. I think some of them have a very special skill that we just don't find out. In my country, there is few school for special children. Poor family dont even send there special child to school.

  6. There is better education for special needs students. The majority of students ARE special needs, they are unique individuals with different learning styles, abilities and needs.  It's called homeschooling and it is not for the faint of heart.  Every child has an IEP specifically tailored for himself and is taught by a concerned dedicated teacher one on one.  Every moment of the day is an opportunity for learning and the child learns to make the best of who he is, and be proud of who he is.

  7. yes i think handy capeable that is the new term they call it today!! ( special needs ) people should recieve better education. because in the 90s i use to help out after or during there classes when i was in school. and all they did just draw and do puzzles all day that's it !!. and basic wrighting. and some students get fusterated because they want to learn more at there own speed of education. depending what grade level they're at. i know alot about special education because i grew up with them all my life helping them out with there troubles in school. it is sad for teachers to treat them like that if they want to learn more like the teachers wouldn't help them it is true i helped specal needs people when i was in grade 8 til grade 12.

  8. yes i agree, im not saying special needed are dumb. im just saying they deserve to learn as much as we do, and there not taking the time out to help them.they give them work and they just assume that is easier enough for them and all you know it its 3rd grad work.

  9. i think the ones with special needs should get a better education cause it's harder for them to learn than us who get a normal one.

  10. PARENTAL SUPPORT???? That makes me sick. I walk my child to class every morning and pick him up so I can get an update of daily issues only  to be asked to drop him in the car line (k). I have asked for the next week work to be sent home and never recieve it. I have been told to leave a class when his aide was still not in there with him after being there ONLY 3 min. I have recieved only 1 dibels the whole year and told that they would have to check on it. I think alot of teachers do try but some focus on getting the main group through.  There needs to be a more intense class setting with these students Dont throw 6 kids together at differant learning levels with 1 or 2 teachers.  Become a little more creative ask the parents what thier children like to be used as incentive instead of asking what is the best form of punishment... Sorry I just lost it

  11. Well special needs students ARE suppose to recieve help. But you are so right, they do NOT get the help they need.

I know that probably NO special ed student realizes this, but schools are VERY corrupt when it comes to special ed. In the teaching of students and on the legal things.

They are violating FEDERAL laws when they do not help the children. Eveyone in the world has to go to prison or somethign when they violate FEDERAL laws. But, NOT SCHOOLS!! For some reason they do NOT get in trouble for ANYTHING they do!

The students parents are paying these school people's paychecks thru their tax dollars. ANd they are paying these school people to hurt their own children!

There is a LOT of this c**p  going on across the country, and you would not believe the fighting that schools do against parents becuase they don't want to help special ed kids.

Parents fight all the time and can get nowhere because the law is on the schools side, even though they are WRONG.

Lots of times the parents don't KNOW that the school is wrong and they just believe everything the school says to them.

I wish I knew what to tell you in order to get help. Your parents have to do this though, the schools will not listen to the students. Special ed has a legal process that must be followed, so the schools will NOT help unless this process is followed.

Students telling the teacher that they need more help is not a part of that process.

The parent has to request an IEP meeting to tell the school that the student needs more help.

But like I said before, the schools will not do this and will NOT get in trouble for it.

  12. I work in the public schools with special ed students. The teachers try their best to educate special ed kids. The problem is lack of money and parental support.

Schools are notorious for not being able to disperse money properly. The many devoted special ed teachers are overworked and not supported enough by the schools or most parents.

It seems that the parents of Special Ed kids expect the schools to do all the work for them.

Why do special ed teachers have to sell popcorn in the high school twice a week in order to earn money for field trips for the special ed students? Something is seriously wrong with the school systems.
