Question:

Who thinks the scoring should change?

Who thinks the tries deserve more points than penalties, because there is a lot more effort put into getting the ball over the line than there is in conceding a penalty. Perhaps 7 instead of 5. Im aware they have moved it up some time ago from 3, but i think its unfair that a team can score two tries and the other team can still win without scoring tries but just converting penalties.

  1. I reckon it's all backwards.

Penalties should be worth more to reduce infringements. Can't kick a penalty if none are given away.

Or put another way - some teams give away penalties instead of allowing a try to be scored because . . . a penalty is worth half as many points.

Maybe if they were worth the same, less time would be wasted on penalty goals ?

  2. It could provide a more free flowing brand of rugby.

    Its worth a TRY.

  3. No, if you think some teams have brilliant kickers but will fail to score tries (Scotland) other have teams who will score tries but have no definite kicker (France) so it is fair and the scoring is fine in my opinion the way things are, the fact that you get 7 for a converted try is enough, so on your idead for a converted try you should score 9 points per try, i think that this is farfetched and way out of proportion, the way it is is perfeectly fine.

  4. what about, instead of raising the try score, lessen the dropped goal to 1 point and maybe penalty to 2 points?

and rush these ELVs into every match, this will promote a faster, free flowing, attacking based rugby brand.

  5. Yes, I couldn't agree more.

Tries deserve more points than penalties

How about 5 points for a try (7 for a converted try) and 3 for a penalty. That sounds about right
