  1. Are you referring to the Experiment that involves the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)? If yes, I do not think it will end the World. But it'll sure does come out with some significant answers that physicists are looking for all these while.

I think the World will most likely to end with an endless natural disasters that strikes different part of the World. Never under estimate the power of Mother Nature. That is why we need to protect and save the environment :)

  2. Must be talking about the LHC creating black holes.

Nope.  The LHC slams small bits of stuff together at high speed and energy.  The claim is that it could produce a dense enough result to briefly create a black hole.  However, it's so small that it will evaporate rapidly.  Too rapidly to consume matter in the lab, much less elsewhere.

And, a similar sort of experiment happens on Earth all the time naturally.  Cosmic rays are little bits of stuff that slam into the matter of the Earth all the time.  If little black holes have been produced, it certainly hasn't hurt anything.  And some of these cosmic rays have energy much higher than LHC could produce.  We exist, so it must be safe.

  3. Isaac Asimov thinks so. Read his article abput the strange case of Physicist Dr. Ralson who died under mysterious circumstances.

His article is titled "Breeds There a Man...?" published in 1951.

  4. nope

  5. NOTHING EVER ENDS IT JUST CHANGES

  6. they wouldnt be alowed to do it if it was really dangerous

  7. When electricity was discovered people thought it would cause the world to end---no real difference.

  8. You mean the one where two morons are pretending to be presidential material?

Yeah....I think they have a darn good shot at ruining the planet.

  9. I agree with Sutti, all black holes have the ability to loose energy. the smaller the hole the faster it looses its energy, or evaporates. Stephen Hawking did the sums. I is therefor very very difficult to grow a big black hole from a microscopic one. Any black holes created in the little toy they have built will evaporate in tiny fractions of a  second, much to fast to grow. Remember all these experiments are done in a vacuum so not much for the poor little fellows to eat even if they were around long enough to get to eat anything.  Seem to remember their is a critical size for black holes, ones smaller than that evaporate, ones bigger can grow faster than they evaporate. Can't quite remember what that size was but it was tonnes not nano grams or less. The ones they might make will be even smaller than that, less than the weight of a single atom.

As to the argument " they wouldn't let them do it if it were dangerous", all I can say is you have a blind faith that I find hard to share. For starters the 'they' would be politicians and since when have 'they' started making sensible decisions based on rational thinking, logic and facts?

Trust me, if there were any real risks the 'they' would not have been told about them, or would not have properly understood them. Plenty of historical cases where crazy risky science was allowed to proceed  without adequate safeguards, so far we have been lucky.

  10. Not me.

  11. my brother told me about this, he works at an institute with a bunch of scientists... I'm not as clever as he is, but i think they are going to create a black hole, or antimatter or something? with a particle collider or something? I really didn't understand it very well...

Really strange, I'm not too worried though, I mean they wouldn't be allowed to do it if it is that dangerous right?

  12. well, i was told that there was more chance of it killing us all, than you winning the lottery. but if it were to go wrong, it would happen so quick we wouldn't notice it. i wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
