Even if this is this just a short-covering rally, I think it may continue for a few days.

  1. Stocks are still basically in a downtrend. I am not expecting stocks to suddenly rally.  So right now I have to say I'm bearish to neutral.

  2.       A few days in the same direction, would seem like a real oddity, lately. I couldn't believe it was happening today - good thing i didn't delay dumping my SKF. Because there's a rumor of Lehman being bought?  Warren said he's buying more AXP or WFC?

The market hates uncertainty. Maybe the prospect of FNM & FRE being settled is reassuring.

I think the big news this week was the inflation numbers - There's a LOT of money parked in fed bonds, getting interest way below inflation. Those are conservative investors- they'd rather wait. But as soon as they think  stocks are safe, they're going to dump those bonds, hard.

I hope I have some TBT or PST when that happens. The chinese and arabs have trillions of $ of bonds. When they redeem them (and quit buying more), the govt. will have to crank up the printing press, big time.  I worry about all the retirees, with pensions relying  on 4% interest from bonds.
