  1. I'm actually working on my Bachelor's degree in meteorology. I still have more a lot more to learn, but I'm progressing. Math and physics was easy in my opinion, and I can see how it applies to the study of the atmosphere. I'm not very interested in research, and I have no interest in becoming a broadcast meteorologist. Forecasting and storm chasing are what I'm planning on getting involved in. Sooner or later I'll get spotter training.

  2. i don't want to be a meteorologist per se, but I do want to be the guy that goes to the site where a hurricane is projected to hit.

I was in MS when Katrina hit, and it was so much fun until the power went out and the water stopped running.

But I've always wanted to be like Jim Cantore. I remember when I was little watching him always report from the hurricane area.

  3. you love math too, i presume?

  4. I do. And also a stormchaser.

  5. I actually was a weatherman for the US Air Force for the past few years and from what I understand it is quite different from civilian weather. Going to college you'll learn the theories behind weather and that's where you'll need the math and physics the most. While needed in military weather, not nearly as much as you'll go through an 8 month course to learn how to predict it and encode it into what are called Terminal Aerodrome Forecasts or TAFs for short. You'll do that in the civilian world, too, if you're not at a tv station. For those wanting to storm chase, I'm with you on that, but remember that most storm chasers are doing as a hobby or something secondary and have a main job elsewhere. I'm also guessing you already know that more often than not, way more often than not, the chase will be a dud, although still fun. And to make it not sound like I'm giving a plug for the Air Force, I hated the military aspect of my job. The weather part was great.

  6. That is meteorologist and I am one.....  i love wx 2.

  7. I do! Its so much fun to learn about it.

  8. Yep im right there with you. Tornado chasing and all. I lived in Illinois for 5 yrs and the weather there is totaly awesome during tornado season. I too want to be behind the scenes not standing infront of a green screen. It annoys me to no end when I tell someone I want to be a meteorologist and they are like "oh you want to be a weather girl and do the forecast" um no I want to collect data and chase storms. lol. I suck at math though. good thing I have a husband who is a math wiz and can help me. :)
