  1. It's hard to end poverty when we keep getting more people in this country. The more we help, it worse it gets.

  2. I think all the poor people and those who care would be for ending poverty.

  3. I do, too. I really wish there was something to do. I do what I can as far as volunteering and donations, bu t............I don't know what else.

  4. Yes, ofcourse we can End Poverty and only We can End Poverty. At this important junture of time, we all should take the responsibility to help the needy and End Poverty. I heard that the United Nations have launched a campaign to End Poverty by 2015. The campaign revolves around 8 major goals which, if accomplished, would ensure eradication of poverty. The campaign also has a community http://www.orkut.co.in/Community.aspx?cm... . Unless individuals come ahead and contribute poverty cannot be ended.

  5. I do too . But politicians feed off the poor and the poor issue . So from them you will get nothing . They destroyed education and the economy in this country .

  6. d**n! I came to you for the answer...maybe thinking has something to do with it? lol

  7. You could do something education-related, like tutoring inner city kids in math and science.  Or, if you have enough money, donating to a scholarship fund for low income students.  I believe that education is the way to solve poverty, since it gives people an essential skill and allows them to differentiate themselves in the global economy.

Or maybe you could volunteer to teach a personal finance class.  I'm not sure how much poverty is due to money mismanagement, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's a significant percentage.  And even if they didn't end up in poverty because of money mismanagement, such a class would teach them to make the most of what they do have.

  8. I'd do too but I don't think poverty will end in the US nor in the rest of the world.  I, however, believe there are solutions that can be taken by the government and private organizations to help reduce poverty, decrease crime (which is higher in areas with poverty), and cut down drug use.

There are many things you can do.

    1. You could become a legislative advocate for the poor.  Basically, you push for bills (and help create ideas for legislation) that would create programs and/or ways to help benefit the poor.  Its an exciting job and one in which you could help create laws that would help the poor.

    2. You could also become a community activist.  Kind of similar to legislative advocate, but you would work more on a local level.  You would also work more with people in the community.  Start local campaigns, and organize meetings, etc.  Check around your city to see if there are programs like that.  I don't know how old you are, but if you are a student, you could find an internship with organizations that do community activism/organizing.  One of the people running for President- Barack Obama- Senator from Illinois, was a community organizer, and he did help create a positive impact and fought for the poor.  I know not everyone likes Obama and I respect others' opinions, but I just want to put out a career option since you are interested in combating poverty.

    3. I think the most important thing though is to make sure you are educated on poverty and economics too.  Doing so would help A LOT in the fight against poverty.  I'm not saying you're uneducated, I'm just saying that learning about poverty, economic programs, and economics would help a lot.  Read works by authors (famous ones)- what I mean is read what famous philosophers have wrote about economics and social problems- Adam Smith, Karl Marx, John Maynard Keynes, Milton Friedman, Max Weber- those are all good ones to look at.  The courses I suggest taking are in the areas of- Sociology, economics, and community studies.  Those would be great subject areas and definitely good ones to learn from.  Again I don't know if you are a student or not, but if you are it would be great to take classes in those areas and read what philosophers have said.  Another good thing to do, regardless of whether you are a student or not- is to read books about poverty too.

    4. I like another respondent's answer.  I think you could also do a personal finance class.  You could teach one and help people manage their money and not go into debt.

    5. You can also educate others about poverty.  Even if you decide not to have a career in fighting poverty through politics, you can work with friends, co-workers, family members, etc on grassroots efforts, etc.  Groups can make a difference.  Everyone can make a diff and fight against injustice (but everyone should do it in a lawful peaceful way).  But yes, educate others about poverty.  If you work, try to get co-workers interested.  If you go to school, you can help form a club. :)

    Places you can work at-

You can work as a staff member for a legislator who has a history of fighting poverty, etc.

    Legislative advocacy groups

    Community organizing groups

Maybe you could work at the mayor's office and see what opportunities they have.  Often times cities have plans on fighting poverty, homelessness and other programs.  See if you can be a part of that.

Be an active citizen and do what you can.

Together, we can all make this world better.

    Hope I helped. :]
