  1. She was one of the first leaders of the American women's rights movement.  She and Susan B. Anthony formed the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869 and worked together to secure women's right to vote.

  2. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born on November 12, 1815, in Johnston, New York. She had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Two of her brothers died before she was even born. Her other brother also died when he was in college, Elizabeth was only 11 years old.

Since all his boys died, her father wished she were a boy. So she decided to study math, Latin and Greek. However, she did not get to go to college like her brother did. Then a few years later her mother had another baby, it was a boy. Her sisters and her wore the same clothes, red dresses. Elizabeth hated that color.

Her mother had one job. That was to stay home and watch the children. Her father on the other hand had a real job. He was a New York Judge. Before that he served in the Congress of the U.S. Later she adored a man named Henry. But there was one problem. He was said to be married. But one day he asked her to go horseback riding with him. Once out of the stables, he asked her to marry him. When she told the news to her father. He did not want this to happen. But then one day Henry had to go to London. They had to get married or it would be too late. Soon after that they moved to Sencea Falls, New York. Later they had three boys.

Elizabeth worked with Susan B Anthony. They organized the Women's Loyal National League to fight for slavery. They founded the National Women's Suffrage Association; Stanton was president. They successfully fought for the right to vote for women. However, this goal was not met until after she died. She also was the co-editor of the Revolution, a weekly women’s suffrage paper. She also wrote her autobiography, and a women’s bible. Elizabeth spent a long time fighting for women’s rights.

She died on October 26, 1902, in New York City. She was 86 when she died. As girls, we are thankful to Elizabeth Cady Stanton for our right to vote. We are impressed with all she accomplished in her life.
