I am trying to solve a family mystery for us. It has always been thought that my great grandmother was Frank Sinatra's God Mother. My Great Grandparents and the Sinatra's were family friends in Hoboken. Unfortunately, my Great Grandmother passed at the age of 36 in the 1930's. Her sister has passed the story down through the family to my Grandmother and Great Aunt, but we have never had real confirmation. Because of the age difference between Frank and my Grandma (8 years) my Grandma can't recall because she was so young. I am looking to find out if anyone know's the names of Frank Sinatra's God Parents or where I could possibly look to for this information. PLEASE try and help me solve this old family mystery.

Thanks!

  1. Ha! Bad joke about Vito Genovese.

The reality is that the only place that has the information is St. Francis Church in Hoboken. He was born in December 1915 and according to several reports he was severely injured during birth and his baptism was delayed by four months. So the only way you can get the information is to contact the parish secretary and ask her to look up Sinatra's baptism in roughly April 1916 and tell you who the godparents are. Like other records in the US, baptismal records lose their privacy after 72 years and most churches will share the info. And before anyone disputes this for the sake of disputing it, that's how the LDS gets access to parish records in order to film them and why so many libraries, like the Burton Collection at the Detroit Public Library, are given films by the churches so that they don't have to do old lookups all day long.

You can often call the parish, but it's easier for them if you send a letter.

  2. Sorry, your great-grandmother wasn't Frank Sinatra's godmother. Not unless she was married to Vito Genovese.
