  1. Homer was a writer in ancient Greece, though his actual existence is debated by scholars.  Homer's "Iliad" and "Odyssey" are stories of Mycenae Greece, especially the Trojan War and its aftermath.  Steeped in mythology and heroics, Homer is more of a folk tale writer than a historian.

The Greek historian Heroditus, the father of history, wrote that Homer lived five hundred years earlier, c. 850 BC.
