Who was Mr.Clean in real life?

My grandma told me years ago that Mr.Clean (the cleaning product guy) was based on an actual man who was a professional wrestler.

so who is/was Mr.Clean in real life?

I dunno. But, I think Mr. Clean bears a strong resembles to ("I'm Too s**y") Right Said Fred.

Wiki has a great article on the origins of Mr. Clean. According to them, he was based on a sailor from Pensacola, Florida and first appeared in 1958.  He was the brain child of  the ad agency Tatham-Laird & Kudner.

I don't want to disagree with grandma.  The wrestler origins could be true and Wiki could be wrong.  It could also be that he did resemble a wrestler from the 1950's by coincidence, or that this is an urban legend.
